ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – A wild week of weather resulted in eight days off for Post University Baseball before they were finally able to return to the field on Friday afternoon for what was originally supposed to be a doubleheader against Dominican (N.Y.). However, after an eight-run seventh inning helped the Eagles take game one, 10-6, game two of the day would be postponed due to the host field needing to be vacated by a certain time. Plans to make up the game have not yet been officially released.
THE BASICS
Post University 10, Dominican (N.Y.) 6
Post University (13-14, 5-1 CACC)
Dominican (N.Y.) (10-18, 5-3 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior right-hander
Matt Semon continued his streak of no-hitting his opponents as he reached 13 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing a hit until he had one out in the fifth inning. Semon's streak extended all the way back to the sixth inning of his outing against Felician University when he allowed the first two runners of that frame to reach.
By the time he allowed the one-out single to junior outfielder Andrew Smith, the Eagles had already supported him with a 2-0 lead off RBI singles from junior infielders
Chris Corchado and
Justin Rivera. But that lead was slashed in half by the Chargers in that fifth inning as two straight singles followed by two consecutive walks brought in a run before Semon forced a double play ball to get out of the jam.
Dominican (N.Y.) briefly took the lead in the sixth as a two-run single by freshman utility player Jake Chaisongkram put his team ahead 3-2 against Semon who exited after giving up a single to the next batter in Smith. Freshman right-hander
Jack Martineau would enter in Semon's place to end the threat which ended up making way for an eight-run seventh by Post that gave them the lead for good.
Eight runs on five hits and one error did the trick for the Eagles as Rivera tied the game up at three to start things off with his one-out RBI single. With two outs and the score tied at three all, a single and walk loaded the bases before a passed ball scored the go-ahead run in freshman infielder
John Onofrio. After senior outfielder
Michael Pavelchak's two-run, go-ahead single chased sophomore right-hander Daniel Tchou from the game, freshman right-hander Jake Butter hit junior catcher
Jimmy Brennan with the pitch to extend Post's lead to four, 7-3.
Graduate outfielder
DJ Caron wrapped up the onslaught of offense with his bases-clearing triple and while a hit batter by Martineau and fielder's choice with senior right-hander
Erik Gutowski on the mound gave the Chargers two runs back, that would put a bow on the 10-6 victory for the Eagles as Gutowski set down Dominican (N.Y.) in 1-2-3 fashion during the ninth.
