HOW IT HAPPENED
Post jumped out to an unexpected 3-0 lead early on in the first quarter as senior attacker Amber McGee continued her hot stretch of scoring followed by a goal each from freshman midfielder Klara Domachowska and graduate midfielder Cara DiStefano. Some impressive saves by senior goalie Lauren Bain kept the Redhawk offense at bay until junior midfielder Emma Blumenstock broke the seal for Roberts Wesleyan with under a minute to go.
Taking a 3-1 lead into the second, a stretch of 11 straight goals starting with that Blumenstock goal in the first put Roberts Wesleyan in full control of the game, 11-3, which they would never look back. DiStefano would eventually break the scoring run for the Eagles with one second remaining in the first half, bringing it to an 11-4 deficit at the half.
Four goals to start the second half for the Redhawks paced them to a running clock and in a quiet fourth that saw just four total goals, Post would fall by 13 goals, 19-6, on their Senior Day at LaMoy Field. All six goals for the Eagles came from Domachowska, McGee, and DiStefano who each had two while DiStefano and Domachowska added an assist, and senior defender Lotanna Nwabadu added the other one.
After outshooting Roberts Wesleyan, 7-5, in the opening quarter, the final three quarters were dominated by a Redhawk team that ended the game with 36 total shots compared to just 14 for Post. Both teams also had six turnovers each in the first 15 minutes but that too was flipped on its head as Roberts Wesleyan forced 21 turnovers to just 11 for the Eagles who were also doubled up in caused turnovers, 14-7.
In goal, Bain finished the game with eight saves compared to just five for junior goalie Shawna Lesmerises on Roberts Wesleyan in the game.
