Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Finale at Dominican (N.Y.)

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Already eliminated from CACC Tournament contention heading into their final game of the season, Post University Women's Lacrosse looked to end things on a high note against Dominican (N.Y.), the top team in the conference who entered the day at 13-3 overall and a perfect 8-0 in conference play. But a 19-0 run for the Lady Chargers that lasted nearly the entire length of the game would be the undoing for the Eagles who dropped their sixth straight game, minus the forfeit win, 21-1, on Thursday.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, Dominican (N.Y.) 21

Post University (5-9, 3-6 CACC)

Dominican (N.Y.) (14-3, 9-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing by a pair of goals early on, senior defender Lotanna Nwabadu cut the deficit in half, making it a 2-1 game with 4:40 left in the first before the rest of the game was owned by the Lady Chargers. Over the final 49:40 of action, Dominican (N.Y.) scored 19 straight goals without Post being able to respond with any offense of their own, leading to that dominant 21-1 victory to cap off a perfect CACC regular season.

The Eagles would turn the ball over 25 times leading to 11 caused turnovers for Dominican (N.Y.) who also held a 38-10 advantage in total shots. Senior goalie Lauren Bain and sophomore goalie Niky Johnson split halves in net to combine for 11 saves while junior goalies Kristinamarie Kaszovitz and Kathryn Ehrlinger combined for five saves in the win.

Nine different players registered a goal for the Lady Chargers as junior attacker Erica Ortiz led the team with five goals and one assist for a total of six points. Junior attacker Caitlin Costello had the biggest all-around game for Dominican (N.Y.) as she recorded a team-high 10 points after scoring twice and dishing out eight assists.

  • Post is 0-9 this season when allowing 10-plus goals and 4-0 when allowing less than 10 goals so far this season
  • Post University is now 0-19 all-time against Dominican (N.Y.) with this being the fewest goals they have scored in a game against the Lady Chargers and the largest margin of defeat at 20 goals
