Bain's Birthday Bash Brings History and First Conference Win of the Season for Women's Lacrosse

WATERBURY, Conn. – It was an all-around historic afternoon for Post University Women's Lacrosse in their home opener against Felician University at LaMoy Field. Hoping to notch their first win in conference play as well as bounce back from a big loss against Wilmington University last weekend, the Eagles did so in style, setting multiple team records in their 25-1 victory over the Golden Falcons.

THE BASICS

Post University 25, Felician University 1

Post University (3-2, 1-1 CACC)

Felician University (1-6, 0-2 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Eight different Eagles would find the back of the net in the first half, resulting in 11 goals in the first quarter alone en route to a 17-0 lead by halftime for Post. Freshman midfielder Roksana Debicka was one of three players to record a first-half hat trick as she had four goals, three assists, and seven total points to lead the way.

Graduate midfielder Cara DiStefano and sophomore midfielder Anna D'Angelo each also tallied a first-half hat trick with three goals apiece while junior attacker Sam Targonski and sophomore midfielder Anna D'Angelo were close behind with two goals each. Targonski also had two first-half assists to add on to her total for the first 30 minutes.

On the defensive end for Post, senior goalie Lauren Bain, who celebrated her birthday today, needed to face just one shot from the Felician offense which she stopped while her counterpart in sophomore goalie Ilyanna Rivera let up 15 goals on 25 shots before being relieved for senior goalie Alexis Lambertino who let in the other two goals of the half.

In front of Bain, senior defender Lotanna Nwabadu led with three ground balls and seven players had at least one caused turnover while Post turned the ball over just once to take their commanding lead.

Eight more goals would reach the back of the net for the Eagles in the second half, leading to a total of 10 goal scorers for the day as freshman midfielder Klara Domachowska added on two, D'Angelo netted two more to bring her total for the game up to five, DiStefano added her fourth of the day, and senior attacker Dana Paz as well as sophomore defender Paige Pipher netted one each in the rout.

The only goal that Bain would let in came with 7:52 left in regulation, preventing the Eagles from getting their second shutout in program history. It was freshman forward Aly Amadruto who got the lone tally for the Golden Falcons as Post marched to their first conference win of the season, 25-1, on Wednesday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • With 25 goals as a team, Post University broke the single-game scoring record set back on March 30, 2022, against Nyack College when the Eagles scored 23 goals in their 23-1 win at home
  • Leeana Grandel became just the fourth player in program history to record 100 ground balls in her career after picking up two today – Grandel trails Christina Badaracco by six ground balls for third all-time and Eryka Baez by 37 for second
  • Post University remains undefeated this season when scoring 10-plus goals in a game, sitting at 3-0
  • Post University moves to 8-0 against Felician University in the all-time series – The 24-goal victory is the largest margin of victory for the Eagles in program history surpassing the 17-goal margin produced in Post's 20-3 win against the Golden Falcons back on April 5th, 2022
  • With 23 draw controls, that mark ranks second in program history for Post University in a single game behind only the 25 draw controls against Caldwell on March 22nd, 2023
  • Allowing just three shots to Felician, that mark put Post University second all-time for fewest opponent shots allowed in program history behind only the April 21st, 2016 game against the Golden Falcons in which the Eagles pitched a 16-0 shutout

WHO'S NEXT
Post University embarks on another extended road trip as they will be away from LaMoy Field for their next three games which will all be in conference. The first of three will come on Saturday at 12:00 PM against Holy Family University down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After winning two straight against the Tigers from 2019-2021, the Eagles have dropped their last two matchups with Holy Family including last year's 19-11 defeat at home and are 3-13 all-time against them.
