Women's Lacrosse Stumbles in Rainy Conference Road Matchup with Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – 30 minutes of solid play sandwiched between a slow start and finish led to the second loss of the conference slate for Post University Women's Lacrosse as the Eagles spotted Holy Family University seven goals in the opening quarter, leading to a 7-1 lead for the Tigers, and were unable to recover. That six-goal lead would be more than enough to propel Holy Family to their first conference win, 17-10, over Post on Saturday morning.

THE BASICS

Post University 10, Holy Family University 17

Post University (3-3, 1-2 CACC)

Holy Family University (2-7, 1-1 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers would pounce on Post in the first quarter, scoring the first six goals of the game as junior attacker Rianna Shields recorded a hat trick throughout the five-minute scoring frenzy for Holy Family. Sophomore midfielder Anna D'Angelo would briefly give Post some momentum with her goal that cut into the deficit, making it a five-goal game, before junior midfielder Payton Pugh's second goal of the quarter gave Holy Family a 7-1 lead heading into the second.

Looking to flip the script on their rough start, freshman midfielder Klara Domachowska's two goals in less than 40 seconds helped bring the Eagles within four, 7-3, but she was immediately met with a pair of goals in response by senior midfielder Tori Wolstenholme which came less than 25 seconds apart to re-up the Tiger lead. Domachowska would earn a hat trick with her third goal of the quarter followed by senior defender Lotanna Nwabadu's second goal of the season to once more tip the scale in Post's favor before both sides exchanged two goals apiece to send the Tigers into the break with an 11-7 lead.

Despite trailing, the Eagles held a substantial edge in shots, especially in the first quarter in which freshman goalie Olivia Kueny had to make 11 saves and totaled 13 for the entire half when all was set and done. For senior goalie Lauren Bain, it was a rough start and half as she made six saves while allowing those 11 goals in the opening 30 minutes.

In the second half, the Tigers would net two more to up their lead back to six goals before graduate midfielder Cara DiStefano and freshman midfielder Roksana Debicka lit the lamp at the end of the third and to start the fourth to make it 13-9 in favor of the Tigers. That would be the closest Post would get as Wolstenholme netted two more goals as part of a 3-0 Holy Family run in the fourth which helped them pull away for the 17-10 win over the Eagles.

In net, Bain finished with eight saves on 25 attempts taken by Holy Family while Kueny got the win with 17 saves on 27 attempts from Post.
