Three-Game Winning Streak Snapped for Men's Lacrosse, Fall to Georgian Court in Conference Opener

WATERBURY, Conn. – Looking to avenge their CACC Tournament Semifinals loss at the hands of Georgian Court University last season, Post University Men's Lacrosse welcomed the Lions back to LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon. However, the outcome would be the same after 11 first-half goals for Georgian Court allowed them to coast to their third straight win over the Eagles, 15-7.

THE BASICS

Post University 7, Georgian Court 15

Post University (4-4, 0-1 CACC)

Georgian Court University (4-4, 1-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Out of the gate, the Lions would set the tone scoring six of the first seven goals in the game between the first two quarters around a goal from junior midfielder Tim Keefe which briefly cut the deficit to three goals, 4-1. Trailing 6-1, Keefe netted his second and final goal of the game in the second followed by sophomore attacker Ryan Denike's goal to bring Post within three again, 6-3.

Senior midfielder Tallen Smith and junior attacker Robbie McGrayne each exchanged a goal for their respective teams before another 3-0 scoring run featuring two goals by sophomore attacker Vincent Burns that sent the Lions into halftime with an 11-4 edge.

Despite the defense allowing just four second-half goals to Georgian Court, including only one in the third, the offense would be unable to find their rhythm against sophomore goalie Vincent Burkhart. Burkhart would allow only three goals over the last 30 minutes and seven overall while making 14 saves in the victory for the Lions.

The three goals in the second half would come from senior midfielder Noah Piette, who scored twice, and the final goal of the afternoon came from senior midfielder Nick Steele in the 15-7 loss, snapping Post's three-game winning streak as the Eagles dropped back to .500 at 4-4.

As a team, Post had 16 turnovers compared to Georgian Court's 11 turnovers, but the 16 possession changes were the third-fewest for the Eagles this season. The Lions led in ground balls during the game as well, 36-29, while outshooting Post, 41-32, in the game. While the Eagles had just one penalty, Georgian Court's two penalties led to one extra-man goal for Post in the affair.
