ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Post University's Men's Lacrosse took a break from CACC action this afternoon as they traveled to the home of the Molloy University Lions where the Lions earned an early lead that they did not relinquish despite a late comeback from the Eagles, handing Post their fifth loss of the season to push the Eagles to a below .500 win percentage (.444). Since the Eagles first started competing against the Lions in 2014, Post has yet to defeat Molloy as the narrow 13-10 loss brings them their seventh straight loss against the program.
THE BASICS
Post University 10, Molloy University 13
Post University (4-5)
Molloy University (5-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions came out of the den hot, finding the back of the net five times in a row before the Eagles were able to get on the board, sneaking in a goal with just two ticks remaining in the first frame. In the second quarter, the Eagles' defense took it up a notch, holding their hosts scoreless until the 10:42 mark when the Lions regained the five-goal edge (6-1). However, less than a minute later, Post's
Hayden Hindman
laced one past Molloy's keeper to cut his squad's deficit to four with 9:49 to go in the half. Molloy swiftly answered back with another goal on a man-up situation to make it 7-2. The teams traded goals until 2:05 when
Tim Keefe
found the back of the net at the 2:05 mark to head into the next half, 8-4.
After the break, Keefe found teammate
Robbie McGrayne who netted the Eagles' first back-to-back goals of the game just 2:09 after the faceoff, shrinking Post's deficit to three (8-5). However, Molloy retaliated with a trio of goals before Hindman was able to add another goal to his stat sheet with 3:27 on the clock (6-11) before assisting McGrayne just two minutes later to enter the final frame, 11-7.
Molloy was able to secure the initial face-off win, however,
Mike Keane caused a turnover allowing
Ryan Denike to record a ground ball before the Eagles rattled off three shots on net but were unable to add to their tally. In the final 15, Post outshot their counterparts, 18-8 and it showed as they were the first to find the back of the net at the 7:38 mark
Dylan Heald brought his team within two goals with just under five minutes in regulation (11-9) before both squads traded goals bringing the score to 10-12 with 3:14 to go. The Lions were able to sneak one more goal in the final two minutes of action, bringing the final score to 13-10.
