WILMINGTON, Del. – Graduate midfielder Cara DiStefano tied her season-high in goals scored with a hat trick, but the high-powered offense of Wilmington University proved to be too much for Post University Women's Lacrosse as nine first-quarter goals for the Wildcats would be more than enough to propel them by the Eagles, 21-4, on Saturday morning.
THE BASICS
Post University 4, Wilmington University 21
Post University (2-2, 0-1 CACC)
Wilmington University (7-2, 1-0 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
DiStefano's goal would come in a man-down situation in the first quarter after the Wildcats opened the game with four straight goals from four different players, cutting into the lead, 4-1. However, five more goals in the opening 15 minutes would give Wilmington the cushion they would need to propel themselves through the rest of the game.
Freshman midfielder Klara Domachowska recorded a goal for the third straight game in the second, giving her seven on the season which puts her third on the team behind DiStefano with nine and fellow freshman midfielder Roksana Debicka at 10 goals. But the Eagles would go into the half trailing still by 10, 12-2, and DiStefano's second goal of the affair to start the third made it a quick 2-0 run for Post before Wilmington went back to work offensively.
Scoring nine of the final 10 goals in the game, the Wildcats would take their 17th straight win against the Eagles, 21-4. Sophomore midfielder Ella Royer along with senior midfielders Amelie Gamache and Makenzie Stritzinger led Wilmington with four goals each while sophomore Alea Javorowsky led the team with eight total points after scoring twice and assisting on six goals. Gamache lurked close behind with six points after she tacked on two assists to go along with her four goals.
Only three players for Post recorded points with DiStefano leading the way with her three points on three goals while graduate attacker Hailey McHenry had one assist and Domachowska had her one goal. Senior goalie Lauren Bain, who was named CACC Goalie of the Week the last two weeks, made nine saves on 30 attempts by the Wildcats while senior goalie Katie Vindigni halted eight of the 11 shots that Post took.
