HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 3, Southern New Hampshire University 8
Freshman right-hander
Jack Martineau ran into some trouble in the first inning of his start, loading the bases with a pair of walks and a single. After getting two outs, Martineau would issue a walk to freshman outfielder Nater Wachter that gave the Penmen a 1-0 lead before escaping the inning with no further damage. Junior third baseman
Justin Rivera knotted the game back up at one-all after a leadoff double for junior catcher
Jimmy Brennan led to a sacrifice fly by Rivera off sophomore pitcher Parker Lendrum.
Brennan would have a sacrifice fly later on in the sixth inning of the game, but at that point, Post had found themselves down 5-1 before his run-scoring hit after four runs in the middle innings for the Penmen. An RBI single for sophomore infielder Frankie DeMaro followed by a sacrifice fly by junior outfielder Harry Vargas Segura tacked on two more for Southern New Hampshire in the fourth. Then a solo shot by senior infielder Jorge Burgos and Vargas Segura reaching on an error plated two more between the fifth and sixth for the Penmen.
Vargas Segura and sophomore infielder Dyrenson Wouters each had an RBI base knock in the seventh while graduate outfielder
DJ Caron had a solo shot in the ninth inning for Post, who fell in game one, 8-3. Lendrum would get his second win of the season for the Penmen after going 8 2/3 innings while letting up three runs (two earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and a hit batter on 121 pitches. Sophomore pitcher Ben Hladun closed out the game on two pitches after Lendrum was lifted following the home run issued to Caron.
Game 2: Post University 6, Southern New Hampshire University 5
Momentum from Caron's home run at the end of game one would carry into game two for Post who got on the scoreboard right away in the first inning. With two runners on and two outs, Rivera's RBI single gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead before sophomore pitcher Zach Brassill escaped the inning in which the bases were loaded with two outs.
Onofrio, who would eventually be the hero of the game, added to the Post lead in the fourth with an RBI single of his own. Then a mishandled ball by Burgos at second with two outs and senior shortstop
Evan Cornwell at the plate led to the third run of the game for the Eagles who suddenly had a 3-0 edge in the seven-inning game.
After four scoreless innings for sophomore right-hander
Nick Semon, the Penmen offense would get going against him in the fifth, striking for four runs to take the lead. Two singles, a hit batter, and a walk led to the first run for Southern New Hampshire followed by a wild pitch from Semon to make it a one-run game, 3-2. Knocking Semon out of the game, sophomore outfielder Jake Pisano's two-run single put the Penmen in front, 4-3, a lead they would add to in the next inning.
A DeMaro RBI double gave Southern New Hampshire a two-run lead, 5-3, in the sixth but Post would tie things up in the bottom of the frame. Junior first baseman
Chris Corchado singled home a run with one out before a sacrifice fly by Caron made it a new game at five all. After a 1-2-3 inning from graduate right-hander
Noah Connor in the seventh, Onofrio would win the game for Post, 6-5, with two outs with an RBI single that scored sophomore catcher
Manny Contreras, who walked with one out in the inning.
