Baseball's Bats Silence in Rubber Match of Three-Game Series Against Southern New Hampshire

WATERBURY, Conn. – The sun would part the cloudy skies over Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Connecticut on Sunday, but for the Post University Baseball offense, it would be a gloomy day at the dish. The Eagles were unable to solve sophomore pitcher Austin Trumpour in the final game of a three-game series with Southern New Hampshire University, who are ranked third in the region, falling 10-2 in the nine-inning affair.

THE BASICS

Post University 2, Southern New Hampshire University 10

Post University (8-13)

Southern New Hampshire University (11-8)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior left-hander Alexander Galvan got the ball for the rubber match on Sunday, allowing a run in the first inning after sophomore infielder Dyrenson Wouters reached on a single. Graduate outfielder DJ Caron would drop a fly ball to left with one out in the frame which led to a run for the Penmen on a sacrifice fly by sophomore outfielder Jake Pisano. However, that run was matched by the Eagles who also got runner on first and second with one out for junior catcher Jimmy Brennan's game-tying sacrifice fly in the bottom half.

Galvan would only go four innings for the Eagles with the big blow coming from Southern New Hampshire in the third when senior infielder Jorge Burgos took the junior deep for a three-run home run that made it a 4-1 game. Brennan got one back for Post with his RBI single in the fifth off of Trumpour, cutting their deficit down to two, 4-2, but the rest of the way it would be all Penmen.

Six more runs would come across the plate between the sixth and eighth innings starting with a solo shot by freshman outfielder Nater Wachter. Wachter would be one of three RBI singles, along with sophomore catcher Kyle Lavigne and senior first baseman Dylan O'Sullivan in the seventh inning, that contributed to the scoring flurry while adding another RBI to his day with an eighth-inning double. The other run would come via fielder's choice in the sixth by freshman infielder Joel Valera as the Penmen took the final game of the three-game set, 10-2.

Moving to 4-0 this season, Trumpour went six innings giving up two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts, no walks, and three wild pitches against the Eagles before being lifted for sophomore pitcher Frankie DeMaro who earned a three-inning save in which he allowed just one hit and struck out four batters.

Six different pitchers would see the mound for Post in today's game as five of them each saw one inning of work after Galvan pitched the first four. Freshman left-hander Aidan Carabello was the only Eagle pitcher to have a scoreless appearance, allowing just one hit in the ninth inning of the loss.
