A fast start in both games for the Knights coupled by some pitching miscues for the Eagles resulted in Queens College sweeping the pivotal early season matchup from Post with 7-3 and 9-3 wins in the nine-seven-inning doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 3, Queens College 7
The Knights struck first, scoring the game's first three runs over the first two innings before the Eagles responded with their only three runs of the affair in the third. A leadoff triple from graduate outfielder Phillip Krpata led to the first run for Queens when a double steal led to Krpata swiping the plate while sophomore outfielder Jorsixt Jimenez took second. Walks and hit batters by junior starting pitcher
Justin Portes in the second led to two runners in scoring position with only one out which led to two more runs for the Knights via ground out by freshman outfielder Michael Vilardi and a wild pitch with Krpata at the plate.
Last night's hero in senior shortstop
Evan Cornwell got Post on the board with the bases loaded and nobody out on his sacrifice fly and the trouble continued for junior starting pitcher Caleb Cassie who reloaded the bases and walked junior catcher
Jimmy Brennan to make it a 3-2 game. Cassie would exit for junior left-hander Nate Rodriguez and a passed ball by junior catcher Thomas Napolitano Jr. tied things up at three all.
Four unanswered runs would pace the rest of the game for Queens with one in the third on a sacrifice fly by junior infielder Robert Jacobsen, a solo shot by Napolitano in the fourth, and then two more runs in the eighth inning on a Napolitano sacrifice fly as well as an RBI single from Vilardi.
Through the final six innings of play, Post would only get one runner in scoring position in the seventh inning when pinch running freshman
John Onofrio got to third on a ground out by senior outfielder
Michael Pavelchak. After Cassie exited the game, the Queens College bullpen threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing just five hits, striking out six batters, and walking one to secure the 7-3 win.
Portes would take the loss for Post, his second of the season, after going five innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and walks. The Eagle bullpen allowed two runs in the final three innings of work on three hits with a strikeout and three walks.
Game 2: Post University 3, Queens College 9
It would not take long for the Knights to strike first against sophomore starting pitcher
Vincent Borghese after a leadoff hit batter and walk put two on for Jimenez's two-run double and then another double steal similar to game one scored Jimenez to extend the Queens College lead to 3-0 with still nobody out. Five runs would ultimately come in to score as a passed ball and RBI single by sophomore utilityman Joey Patane plated the other two.
Junior designated hitter
Chris Corchado would get one back for the Eagles in the bottom of the first on an RBI double, but those five runs would be all the Knights needed to sweep the doubleheader from Post. Queens would end up tacking on four more runs throughout the rest of the seven-inning affair via ground out and RBI doubles from senior catcher Nick Barreiros and Krpata to lead the nine-run charge towards a 9-3 win. An RBI ground out for senior infielder
Zachary Ruth and RBI double for senior outfielder
Danny Gill would supply the other two runs of the game for the Eagles.
After Borghese lasted only one inning for Post, junior left-hander
Alexander Galvan pitched the final six innings and allowed three runs on six hits with one walk. Getting the win for Queens was sophomore right-hander Christopher Naronis after going four innings in which he allowed three runs on six hits with a strikeout and a walk. Junior right-hander Nick Kozerski finished off the three-inning save while allowing only two runners to reach via walk.
