Women's Ice Hockey Drops First-Ever Shootout Against Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Sophomore forward Macy Peterson scored two goals in 21 seconds to give Post University Women's Ice Hockey a second-period lead against Saint Anselm College in Saturday afternoon's road matchup, but for the second straight day senior forward Tyra Turner struck in the third to force overtime which turned into the first-ever shootout for the Eagles who fell 2-1 in the three-round affair to drop their fifth straight game.

THE BASICS

Post University 2, Saint Anselm College 2 (2-1 SO)

Post University (2-9-1, 2-5-1 NEWHA)

Saint Anselm College (4-8-1, 4-3-1 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It would be essentially deja vu for the Hawks who got goals from senior forward Audrey Jackson and Turner which helped them take down the Eagles less than 24 hours before this game, 2-1, on home ice. Jackson would open the scoring just three minutes or so into the contest with the help of Natasha Lozowchuk to give Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead in a first period that saw junior goalie Hannah Saunders get forced to make 12 saves comparably to only seven saves needed for sophomore goalie Clara Karunakar to get her team into the second with the lead.

But in a second period that saw the shots on goal favor the Eagles, 12-6, that would be when Peterson would two quick strikes to give her team their first lead against the Hawks since they led 1-0 in the first period of Game Three in last year's NEWHA Quarterfinals matchup. Helping Peterson net her third and fourth goals of the season would be sophomore defenseman Brooke Larsen and junior forward Maddy Noonan on the first one and senior forward Hannah Luckman on the second as Post took a 2-1 edge into the third and were 20 minutes away from snapping their losing streak.

Just under halfway through the final frame would be when Turner got assistance from fifth-year forward Celesta Paolucci and junior forward Brooklyn Schneiderhan to beat Saunders with the game-tying goal which would lead to the five-minute, three-on-three sudden-death overtime. Saint Anselm would end up getting a power play with 1:50 left after senior defenseman Sajel Desai took a tripping penalty and ringing one off the post inside of a minute would be Schneiderhan before time expired to send the teams to their first-ever shootout in program history.

Looking to find the back of the net against Karunakar again, Peterson failed on her attempt inside the left post while Jackson was stopped by Saunders in round one. Both goalies would get beat in round two as sophomore forward Noa Farberman went five-hole on Karunakar while Schniederhan went top shelf to tie things up at one with one round to go. That would be where Turner once again put the dagger into the heart of the Eagles going high on Saunders while freshman forward Rowyn Ringor missed on Karunakar to seal off the 2-1 shootout victory for the Hawks.
