HOW IT HAPPENED
Penalties would be the story in the early going on this affair as a combined three penalties were issued in the first seven minutes of play with junior forward Gracie Sacca taking a boarding call only 45 seconds into the frame followed by junior forward
Rylee Patfield's cross-check at the 4:08 mark. By the time senior defenseman
Caisey Van Den Oetelaar's roughing penalty expired, neither side had found the back of the net which would be the case for the entire first 20 minutes.
Holding an ample 23-8 lead in shots overall and 18-5 edge in shots on goal, Stonehill peppered junior goalie
Hannah Saunders who made every stop necessary to keep her team in the game as did freshman goalie Alexsa Caron on the other side of the ice.
It would be more of the same for both teams in the second period with neither team still able to get on the scoreboard as Saunders and Caron each faced nine shots on goal while it was Post who held the advantage in overall shots, 22-18. The sole power play of the frame would also go to the Eagles after a tripping penalty to junior forward Maddison Achtyl, but nothing would come of the chance, sending the game to the third still scoreless.
Finally breaking the seal on the game would be senior forward
Julia Wysocki just over halfway through the third to give Post what would ultimately be the game-winning goal in the contest. With the help of junior forward
Tristan Currie's pass to the front of the net, a quick shot by Wysocki went by Caron and just under the crossbar for the senior's fourth goal of the season.
Despite pulling the goalie still down by one with about 1:30 to go in regulation, Saunders would stand tall to earn her second shutout of the season as the defense in front of her blocked four shots in the final minute while another two went wide and the junior needed to make just one more save in a period that she had seven saves in to secure the 1-0 win and snap the losing streak at four games.
