Men's Ice Hockey Shut Out by Southern New Hampshire on the Road

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The Post University Men's Ice Hockey offense was stifled by sophomore goalie Colin Berke in the first road game for the Eagles since they started the season at Fitchburg State University on November 2nd, as Post was shut out for the first time this season against Southern New Hampshire University, 3-0, on Friday night behind 20 saves in net from Berke.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, Southern New Hampshire University 3

Post University (2-5-0, 1-4-0 NE10)

Southern New Hampshire University (3-4-0, 2-3-0 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Penalties would play a big role in the game for both sides as all three goals for the Penmen would be scored either on the power play, penalty kill, or with junior goalie Benjamin Cunneen pulled from the net towards the end of regulation. After two early power-play chances for Southern New Hampshire in the first, junior forward Hugh McGuigan's five-minute major penalty which resulted in a game misconduct and an unreleasable man-up advantage, led to freshman forward Kyle Singerland's goal inside of a minute to play in the first.

After killing off the remainder of the penalty at the start of the second period, it was Post who had a man-up chance but saw the Penmen increase their lead to two as a shorthanded opportunity was cashed in on by sophomore forward Anthony Marchant. In all, the Eagles had four power-play opportunities in which they registered just five shots while Southern New Hampshire had three of their own in those man-down situations.

As for the Penmen, they had six power plays, including the five-minute major in which they scored once in the first period while tallying up 25 shots over the course of the 13 total penalty minutes. Cunneen, who took the loss in net for the Eagles, made 42 saves including a game-high 18 saves in the second period and 13 more in the third around being pulled for the empty net. Senior forward Connor Ball scored the empty net goal to seal the 3-0 win for the Penmen inside of two minutes to play, sending Post to their second straight loss.
