Women's Soccer Unable to Mount Late Comeback, Eliminated from CACC Tournament Contention

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Junior midfielder Rebecca Dalton netted four goals for Chestnut Hill College while a late comeback attempt by Post University Women's Soccer would not be enough to keep their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament hopes alive in a 4-3 loss at LaMoy Field on Saturday. Entering the day, the Eagles needed to win out or go 2-0-1 with Goldey-Beacom College losing their final match of the season to have a chance at getting in, but with the loss, they do not hold the tiebreaker against the Griffins or Lightning and cannot finish with more wins then them.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, Chestnut Hill College 4

Post University (2-11-0, 2-7-0 CACC)

Chestnut Hill College (4-8-1, 4-6-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dalton's big day would start early in just the 10th minute with a header on the pass in by junior midfielder Lauren Sullivan to give the Griffins a brief 1-0 lead before sophomore forward Jordyn Calas answered back with the game-tying goal behind a couple of passes from senior forward Anna Eicke and freshman midfielder Rhee Morrison in the 16th minute.

However, Dalton would nearly have her second goal less than a minute later after beating sophomore goalkeeper Aryn Nisbet before being ruled offsides. No more than nine minutes later though, Dalton planted one past Nisbet unassisted in the 26th minute and then yet again with the help of Sullivan and senior forward Abby Galazka made it a 3-1 game in the 29th minute which would carry into halftime.

Finishing off her four-goal day, Dalton was initially stopped on a breakaway by Nisbet before getting her rebound back and firing it by her in the 67th minute in what looked to be a rout for the Griffins. However, with time winding down in the match, senior forward Alyssa Hebb netted her eighth goal of the season with the help of senior goalkeeper Hannah Marriott, who played the field, and senior forward Anna Eicke to cut the deficit to two. With still just over a minute remaining, sophomore midfielder Reese Kloetzer scored on a corner kick from Eicke making it 4-3, before the Griffins halted any last rush the Eagles could formulate to hold on for the win.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • With goals in three consecutive matches now, Jordyn Calas has three goals on the season which gives her a new season high, surpassing her two total last year which she got against D'Youville University
  • Alyssa Hebb continues her career season, adding an eighth goal to her total in today's match -- Hebb has scored in three of the last four matches for Post University
  • Post University was outshot 25-9 overall and 10-5 in shots on goal -- Aryn Nisbet made six saves in the match but fell to 0-9-0 on the year
  • When allowing three or more goals in a match this season, Post University is now 0-8-0 this year

WHO'S NEXT
Post University makes up their match against Georgian Court University, which was rescheduled from October 26th on the road at 1:30 PM on Monday afternoon in New Jersey. The Eagles have not beaten the Lions since 2014 and since then are 0-6-2 against them after tying 1-1 last season at home.
