HOW IT HAPPENED
After scoring three goals in the first period yesterday, the Eagles made it five total goals in the opening period for the weekend after netting two more to take a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. For the second straight day, junior forward
Hugh McGuigan found the back of the net while freshman forward
Bradley McMains earned his first collegiate assist, and junior forward
Jacob Howell assisted as well to give Post an early 1-0 lead. Minutes later, senior defenseman
Tanner Glasrud connected on a shot from the blue line with the help of freshman forward
Holden Beckett, who got his first collegiate assist and point with the goal.
Momentum would continue in favor of Post for the first part of the second period as junior forward
Conner Murray beat sophomore goalie Cam Carroll for the third goal of the contest that gave the Eagles a commanding 3-0 lead before the tables would turn in favor of Saint Anselm. Senior forward Chase Reynolds got the scoring started for the Hawks with a power-play goal just over halfway through the frame, getting assistance from senior defenseman Luke Mix and junior forward Luke Linart on the score.
Mix and Linart would help out again on the power play just under five minutes later as junior forward John Myers beat junior goalie
Zach Richards with a shot to make it a one-goal game. Completing a stretch of three goals in under seven minutes was freshman forward Brendan Manning as senior defenseman Mark Blaney and freshman forward Conor Kelly fed him a pair of passes for the equalizer heading into the third and final period.
Recording his third point of the afternoon, Mix set up senior forward Hunter Brackett along with sophomore forward Patrick DeMarinis for the go-ahead goal at the 9:34 mark of the third which stood up as the game-winner as Carroll made seven third-period saves and with the goalie pulled, Post would not be able to beat the sophomore to tie the game, falling 4-3 and splitting the weekend series.
