Women's Soccer Shutout By Goldey-Beacom College on the Road

WILMINGTON, Del. –  Senior forward Sia Diakos scored two goals in the second half for Goldey-Beacom College as Post University Women's Soccer fell under .500 in conference play with a 2-0 loss on the road to the Lightning on Saturday afternoon. Heading into the match, the Eagles sat at 1-1-0 in their two conference matches while Goldey-Beacom was 0-3-0 entering the day making this a potentially pivotal matchup for seeding down the stretch should the two teams be vying for playoff positioning in the CACC Tournament a little over a month from now.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, Goldey-Beacom College 2

Post University (1-6-0, 1-2-0 CACC)

Goldey-Beacom College (2-7-0, 1-3-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither side would generate too much offense in the first 45 minutes of play as the Eagles were outshot 12-0 overall by the Lightning but only three of those shots reached senior Hannah Marriott in net who turned them away. However, despite the lack of shot opportunities against senior goalkeeper Nikki Cashin, Post was the more aggressive team resulting in 10 fouls compared to only four for Goldey-Beacom who also held just a 1-0 edge in corner kicks at the break.

Offensively, things would not change much for the Eagles in the second half of the match as they only managed one shot in the 86th minute manufactured by sophomore midfielder Reese Kloetzer which went high of the goal. Meanwhile, the Lightning would generate eight more shots, bringing their game total to 20 for the afternoon and six total on Marriott in the net.

In the 58th minute, Diakos would break through Marriott with the help of senior defender Alyssa Petulla for her first goal of the match and then nine minutes later net her second with the assistance of freshman midfielder Diana Luna Lopez which was more than enough for the Lightning to cruise to a 2-0 win over the Eagles. In the match, Marriott finished with four saves on six shots while Cashin did not face any shots in her shutout performance for Goldey-Beacom.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • This is the first time since September 2nd, 2023 against Pace University in which Post University was unable to record a shot on goal in a match -- The Eagles were outshot 20-1 overall and 6-0 in shots on goal today against Goldey-Beacom
  • Nikki Cashin earned the shutout win in net for Goldey-Beacom, not facing a single shot from the Post University offense in the affair
  • In two of their first three conference matchups, Post University has been shut out marking the first time since the 2021 season in which that has happened -- That season the Eagles were shut out in three of their first four conference matches
  • Today's loss is the seventh in the last eight matchups for Post University against Goldey-Beacom dating back to 2017 with three of those now being shutouts

WHO'S NEXT
Post University has six days off before taking on Jefferson University at home for Homecoming Weekend at LaMoy Field. The Eagles have lost their last eight matchups against the Rams dating back to the 2015 season when they were defeated in the CACC Tournament on penalty kicks. Last year, Post fell on the road against Jefferson, 5-0, on September 22nd.
