Marc Ballart Buries Two, Men's Soccer Clinches Spot in CACC Tournament

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – For the 20th consecutive season of competition, Post University Men's Soccer is headed back to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament as two goals from freshman forward Marc Ballart helped lead the Eagles to a 4-1 victory over Georgian Court University. The win helped them reclaim the top spot in the CACC after leapfrogging the Lions who were in first place over Post entering the day.

THE BASICS

Post University 4, Georgian Court University 1

Post University (8-4-3, 6-1-2 CACC)

Georgian Court University (8-6-1, 6-3-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore forward Gijs Van Eif scored his 11th goal of the season for the Lions in the 25th minute, helping them take a 1-0 lead before the Eagles struck for four unanswered goals. It started with Ballart in the 43rd minute with the help of graduate midfielder Luis Rodrigues to tie the game at one all heading into halftime in what was an evenly matched affair for both sides.

Nearly identical numbers for the teams saw six shots apiece as well as one save each for graduate goalkeeper Ricardo Moreno and junior goalkeeper Ayendi Batista, who also allowed one goal while both teams had one corner kick each as well. The only difference would come in the fouls category in which Georgian Court doubled up Post, 4-2.

But the second half would be dominated by the Eagles to the tune of three more goals from Rodrigues with the help of Ballart, Ballart for the second time in the match, and then junior midfielder Markus Boe Tunge netting the fourth and final goal in his first match back after helping out on the third goal.

All in all, Ballart led the team with two goals and one assist for five points while Rodrigues and Boe Tunge had three points each after registering a goal and an assist in the 4-1 win. A once even match saw Post close the final 45 minutes with an 11-5 shot advantage, 6-1 lead in shots on goal, and allowing no corner kicks to the Lions while having six of their own in the victory.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • With two more goals today, Marc Ballart now has four on the season and is second on the team in the category while being tied for the team lead with three assists now
  • Since their 4-0 loss against Gannon University, Post University has allowed just five goals across their last eight matches while scoring 15 goals in the same span
  • Allowing just one corner kick in the match to Georgian Court, that ties Post University for the fewest allowed corner kicks this season with their match against Bloomfield College when they allowed one as well
  • Post University has now won five consecutive matches against Georgian Court and moves to 12-1-1 in the all-time series
