Kehl Yeah! Caryss Kehl Nets First Collegiate Goal in Overtime to Send Women's Ice Hockey Past Franklin Pierce

WINCHENDON, Mass. – A night of firsts for Post University Women's Ice Hockey helped the Eagles overcome a pair of one-goal deficits against Franklin Pierce University in the back end of a home-and-home series against the Ravens emerging with a 3-2 victory on Saturday night.

Sophomore defenseman Marley Webster scored her first collegiate goal while freshman defenseman Caryss Kehl got her first collegiate goal in overtime to propel Post to victory which resulted in junior goalie Hali Lawrence also picking up a collegiate first with her first win as the starting netminder for the Eagles.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, Franklin Pierce University 2 (OT)

Post University (2-6-0, 2-2-0 NEWHA)

Franklin Pierce University (3-3-0, 3-1-0 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It did not take long for the Ravens to put Post in a hole as freshman forward Bo Dean and senior forward Mikayla Kelley helped sophomore forward Emma Laroche put one past Lawrence just 31 seconds into the game. After having 40 shots a day ago, the Eagles had just six in the first period against junior Jill Hertl, who made the start in her second straight game, while Lawrence faced six as well and made five saves.

Beyond the score, a combined 46 penalty minutes were issued between the two teams, including 40 minutes of match penalties with 1:30 remaining in the first as junior defenseman Maggie Korneta had 20 penalty minutes while senior forward Julia Wysocki was issued 10 minutes along with junior forward Rylee Patfield.

Like a day ago, the second would see the most scoring with both sides exchanging goals first with Webster tying it up with her high shot into the top right corner to knot it up at one with just under seven minutes to play in the frame. But just over four minutes later, it would be Franklin Pierce jumping back in front with junior forward Anna Caumo's go-ahead goal, a goal that would hold up until the waning moments of the third.

That would be when junior forward Maddy Noonan netted the equalizer with the help of freshman forward Rowyn Ringor and junior forward Tymmarie Grom with 4:41 left in regulation to eventually force overtime. It looked like the teams would be heading to their first shootout in program history as the seconds ticked down in the overtime frame, but that would be when junior forward Tristan Currie fed a streaking Kehl on the left side who lifted the puck over the right pad of Hertl for the game-winning score.

Between the pipes, Lawrence would come up with 22 saves in her first collegiate win while Hertl took the loss making 26 saves on 29 total shots as the Eagles moved to an even 2-2 in conference play with a come-from-behind win in overtime, 3-2.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Both Marley Webster and Caryss Kehl each recorded their first collegiate goal in the win – For Webster it was her first in 37 games while for Kehl it was her first in eight collegiate games played
  • Picking up her first collegiate win in net, Hali Lawrence made 22 saves on 24 shots, including two in overtime after dropping her first six goalie starts over the last three seasons
  • This was only the second time in program history in which Post University has beaten Franklin Pierce University on the road – The first time came on December 2nd, 2022 in a 2-1 regulation win
  • Post University snaps their streak of allowing a power-play goal in five straight games after executing a perfect 5-for-5 evening on the kill against Franklin Pierce in which they allowed just five shots while getting two shots of their own

WHO'S NEXT
