HOW IT HAPPENED
An aggressive first half of play saw both sides starting out fast and furious in hopes of getting the upperhand early on in the match and the Georgian Court offense came out firing to the tune of three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes and change against freshman goalkeeper Alexis Campbell who was making her first collegiate start in net. On the other side, it was senior midfielder Kaeleigh Serianni rifling a shot at senior goalkeeper Carley Polchak in the opening minutes but she was turned away.
However, Serianni would play a big role in that lone Eagles' goal of the afternoon which came in the 25th minute. On a throw in from the senior on the right side of the field, the ball would carom off of senior defender Amber McGee before finding its way of Asamoah for the redirect over the head of Polchak, giving Post University a 1-0 lead. The Lions would tack on two more shots on goal in the first half, bring Campbell's total saves to five in the first half to Polchak's two.
Adjusting at the half, the Lions would send junior goalkeeper Emma Bennett into the net for the final 45 minutes in which she would turn away a number of strong offensive pushes by the Eagles. In the midst of it, Merizalde would tie the game up in the 57th minute after a bouncing ball for junior midfielder Breana Parkinson found her in space. The junior would rifle a shot high into the top right corner of the net by Campbell for the game-tying goal with just over 30 minutes remaining in the match.
A little while later, Bennett would be up to the challenge against the Eagle offense as a bouncing ball in front found the head of Amber McGee who had the ball punched out of harms way by the goalkeeper and quickly finding the foot of junior forward Alyssa Hebb near the open side of the net. But a nice move by Bennett prevent Hebb from getting a clean shot against her, keeping the game tied at one where it would ultimately remain after 90 minutes.
