WATERBURY, Conn. -- 13 minutes may not seem like a lot of time on the soccer field, but it was more than enough for junior forward Deni Iljazi to leave his mark on LaMoy Field against Georgian Court in the second half of Saturday afternoon's game, helping the Eagles ice their fourth consecutive win with two goals in the final 10 minutes. The win was also the fourth straight in in conference play as well as their fourth straight shutout which ties their program record for most consecutive shutout wins with their 3-0 victory over Georgian Court University.Â
THE BASICSÂ
#17Â Post University 3, Georgian Court University 0Â
#17 Post University (5-1-2, 4-0-0 CACC)Â
Georgian Court University (2-4-2, 1-2-1 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
The first half was completely dominated by the defenses of both teams as neither side would concede any space or make any errors to give the other a strong scoring opportunity. Only three shots would be recorded in the opening 45 minutes with two of those three being taken by sophomore forward Aritz Uriate, who entered the day with two game-winning goals on the season and leading the team in shots, shots on goal, and goals.Â
The statistic would prove to be true as Uriate notched his fourth goal of the season on a header in the 60th minute. But it would come just after momentum nearly swung in favor of the Lions as sophomore midfielder Cherif Tammar fired on junior goalkeeper Soren Jensen and the long six-foot, six-inch frame of Jensen was just able to punch the ball out of the box.Â
Then the Eagles would take the lead as junior defender Omar Florindo would take a throw-in on the offensive side of the field which would go right to junior forward Francisco Sousa who made a move towards the box before firing a cross pass. That pass would find the head of Uriate who caught freshman goalkeeper Fabio Krissler in no-mans land for the first goal of the game which would prove to be all the Eagles needed.
Looking to extend the lead on multiple occasions, Krissler would hold Post University to just one goal through 80-plus minutes despite a couple of strong chances from Uriate that forced the freshman far outside the box to make some saves. That would be until Iljazi came into the game with about nine minutes remaining in which he would put two goals into the back of the net and nearly have a chance at the hat trick to finish off the afternoon.Â
On passes from Sousa and sophomore midfielder Markus Boe Tunge, Iljazi would find his first goal of the game there for the taking and then just over two minutes later on a pass from graduate midfielder Andrea Berti, beat Krissler again for his second goal in a little over five minutes of being on the pitch for the Eagles as they would go on to win the match, 3-0.Â
