Shelton, Conn. -- Post University's Women's Ice Hockey hosted the Syracuse Orange for their home opener this evening where the Eagles fought until the last second but ultimately fell to their opponents, 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both squads traded shots in the opening minute of action before Syracuse was able to rattle of 13 shots, controlling the puck in their zone of attack for the majority of the first period. However, Post's defense could not be cracked as they held the Orange scoreless in the first including 16 saves from goaltender
Grace Glasrud. Meanwhile, the Eagles attempted to capitalize on a power play at 16:39 with a total of six shots in the two minutes of man-up action.
In the second frame, Post used their momentum from the first to start the second on top after winning the initial face off. However, the Orange quickly turned over the puck to pound the net with five shots within three minutes which were all denied by Glasrud.The Eagles continued to battle for possession, winning six straight face offs in the first 10 minutes of play. It wasn't until 3:35 left on the clock when Syracuse finally got on the board after Heidi Knoll laced one to the back of the net to give the Orange a 1-0 edge heading into the final period.
The Eagles started off the third with 27 ticks on the power play left but were unable to take advantage of it before the ice was even again. The squads continued to fight for the puck but Post started to lose steam towards the second half of the final 20, resulting in a second Syracuse goal at the 11:53 mark, taking on an insurance goal for the Orange (2-0). With just under four minutes remaining in regulation, the Eagles drew another penalty to give them the five-on-four advantage, that the home team was unable to capitalize on before taking the eventual 0-2 loss.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Previously losing to Syracuse, 0-10 and 1-6 during the 2022-2023 season, today marks the lowest margin that the Eagles have lost to the Orange.
- After today's narrow loss, Post has yet to defeat the Orange in the past two years making for a 0-3 record against Syracuse.

The Eagles return to their home rink tomorrow, Saturday September 30 to seek revenge on the Orange with a 1:15 PM puck drop.
