Purple Knights Stifle Eagles In Mid-Week CACC Contest

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Post University's Women's Soccer team traveled to Bridgeport Connecticut this afternoon to square up against CACC rivals, the Purple Knights of Bridgeport University. The Eagles made their presence known right from the start, finding the back of the net within the first minute after the whistle blew to take the initial edge, but Bridgeport battled back to net four in the remaining minutes before topping it off with a final goal in the second half to take the 5-1 conference win.

Since 2002, the Eagles have yet to defeat the Purple Knights with an overall record of 0-11 against their hosts. Within those 11 games, Post has only scored in three of them, with today's match-up being the fourth.

Bridgeport University (4-2-2, 2-1-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board as they were quick find the back of the net thanks to a long free kick from Alyssa Hebb which found the head of Post's Amber McGee to give the orange and white a 1-0 advantage just 55 ticks into the conference bout. Not long after, the Purple Knights retaliated as Bridgeport's Brooke Boucher laced a shot wide of the net at the 2:15 mark before the junior was able to even out the score with 40:08 on the clock (1-1).

The hosts eventually went ahead just over 19 minutes into the first half after a defensive giveaway to bring the score to 2-1. Bridgeport used their momentum to extend their lead to two after capitalizing on a cross from the wing of the field finished off by a header into the net (3-1) with just over 16 minutes remaining before the break. However, the Purple Knights sought to lengthen their lead before the period ended, as they were able to squeeze in a fourth goal at the 40:49 mark thanks to a long free kick placed in the top corner (4-1).

Coming back from the break, the Eagles were the firs to fire once again just over a minute into action as McGee lasered one on net but was saved by Bridgeport's keeper to keep the score frozen at 1-4. The Purple Knights continued to pound the net, getting 11 shots off, however, Posts' Aryn Nisbet denied every attempt. It wasn't until the 72nd minute when Bridgeport was able to add to their lead with another long shot over the gloves of Nisbet. Although Bridgeport continued to pound the net with a total of 18 shots, the Eagles kept their opponents at bay for the remainder of regulation, taking the eventual 1-5 loss.  BY THE NUMBERS
