BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Just hours after the United Soccer Coaches' Poll revealed that Post University Men's Soccer moved up to 17th in the nation, up three spots from a week ago, the Eagles further justified their climb in the national ranks with their third consecutive shutout victory, all of which have come in conference play, to move to 3-0-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with their 1-0 win over University of Bridgeport on the road Tuesday night.
THE BASICS
#17 Post University 1, University of Bridgeport 0
#17 Post University (4-1-2, 3-0-0 CACC)
University of Bridgeport (3-4-2, 2-1-0 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Like in their game against Jefferson University over the weekend, not much was doing for either team for a majority of the first half as two early shots by junior forward Francisco Sousa and graduate midfielder Luca Dettoli were turned away by freshman goalkeeper Hugo Franceschi in net for Bridgeport. On the other end of the pitch, junior goalkeeper Soren Jensen would face no shots on goal while the Purple Knights only got off three total shots through the first 45 minutes.
Breaking the scoreless tie would be sophomore forward Aritz Uriate in the 42nd minute off a free kick from last game's hero in graduate midfielder Andrea Berti. Berti's kick would find the head of Uriate who got it by Franceschi, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
The second half would be a flip of the first with the Purple Knights stringing together seven total shots to Post's four while firing two at Jensen in net while the Bridgeport defense would not allow the Eagles to get a shot against Franceschi. However, the biggest threat for the opposition would come in the 71st minute when a foul by Post in the box led to a penalty kick opportunity for junior midfielder Lucas Sousa.
Sousa would have Jensen beat on the right side but fired the shot just a hair too far to the right goal post, causing it to carom off the post and back into play as the Eagles avoided allowing the equalizer by the slimmest of margins. Post would hold Bridgeport in check for the final 19 minutes and change to the tune of just one shot on net by Sousa again which was saved by Jensen, as they would go on to win their third straight game overall, in conference, and by way of the shutout, 1-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
- An even match offensively, both sides accumulated 10 total shots with Post holding a slight 3-2 edge in shots on goal -- Both teams would ultimately make two saves a piece with Uriate's goal being the difference

- Aritz Uriate now has 10 career goals, six of which have been game-winning for Post University in his two seasons
