Second Quarter Sinks Football in Road Matchup with Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- In a closely contested road matchup for Post University Football, the difference maker of the afternoon would be the second quarter for the Eagles as a 27-point frame from Saint Anselm helped the Hawks take control heading into the halftime locker room and hand Post University their fourth consecutive loss to start the season, 42-21, on Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS Post University 21, Saint Anselm College 42 Post University (0-4)
Saint Anselm College (2-2) HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles would lead after one quarter, 7-6, after Saint Anselm took the lead on their second possession of the game when freshman quarterback Drew Forkner found senior wide receiver Carter Uhlman for a 13-yard touchdown pass. The extra point from junior kick Patrick Carroll would be no good, keeping the Hawks ahead 6-0. In response, Post would march down the field led by junior running back Isaiah Emmanuel's big 37-yard run to start the drive. Graduate quarterback Simon Burkett would cap off the six-play scoring drive with a 37-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Joshua Tracey followed by the extra point from freshman kicker Aden Caine to put the Eagles ahead.

But an explosive second quarter for the Hawks would help them take control of the game as sophomore running back Jaidin Haynes delivered the go-ahead score with an 18-yard touchdown run before Forkner failed on the two-point conversion. Just over three minutes later, the Hawks found the end zone again after Burkett was picked off by fifth-year defensive back Ryan Raybuck and Forkner found Uhlman again for the 14-yard score as Saint Anslem went ahead, 19-7.

The ensuing kickoff would see Tracey take it to the house for Post University, who looked to respond and get back into the contest, as the sophomore ran 90 yards for the score to cut the deficit down to five, 19-14. However, two more scores just before the half on a touchdown run from junior running back Rio Ferguson and touchdown pass from Forkner to junior wide receiver Colin Kniffen capped off the big quarter for the Hawks who went up by 19, 33-14, heading into the half.

A rather stagnant second half for both teams would see only 16 combined points go onto the scoreboard as Forkner threw his fourth touchdown pass of the day to junior tight end Carson Goda and Carroll hit a 37-yard field goal for the Hawks. On the other side, the Eagles would get a late score from Emmanuel on his two-yard touchdown run, bringing the score to its eventual 42-21 final.
