Waterbury, CT – The Post University women's lacrosse team lost an 18-11 game to the D'Youville University Saints on Friday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
The Eagles are now 3-8 on the season, while D'Youville is now 7-5.
The Saints got off to a fast start, scoring nine goals in the first quarter to take a 9-4 lead after the first 15 minutes as Sydney Gordon scored four times and Sam Newlin scored three times for D'Youville.
Post had trailed 9-2 with 1:40 remaining in the period, but a goal by
Athlyn Wood with 50 seconds left and a goal from
Morgan Cassiliano – her second of the game – with three seconds left cut Post's deficit.
Cara DiStefano opened the scoring for the Eagles with a goal at 11:21.
D'Youville extended its lead to 14-6 heading into the half as the Saints scored the first three goals of the second, two from Madison Buck. The Eagles got a second goal from DiStefano and a third from Cassiliano, but the Saints scored two more times, including one with four seconds remaining from Madison Handley.
Post began to chip away in the third, as
Molly Dobratz scored two straight goals, one assisted by
Hailey McHenry and the other by DiStefano. McHenry added her own goal, making it a 14-9 game with 3:20 left.
Lauren Bain allowed just one goal in the third to D'Youville as she started the second half.
Post got as close as 15-11, scoring the first two goals of the fourth quarter as DiStefano and Wood scored. However, that would be it for scoring for the Eagles, as Newlin scored two more times and Buck once to put the game away for D'Youville.
DiStefano finished with three goals two assists and six draw controls. McHenry had a goal and an assist. Cassiliano had her eighth game of scoring at least three goals in a game this season. Dobratz and Wood both finished with two goals. It was the second two-goal game for Wood this season.
The Eagles won the draw control battle, 20-15. The Saints edged the Eagles 25-22 in shots on goal. DiStefano and Cassiliano each had six. Both teams had 14 groundballs
. Leeana Grandel led the Eagles with four.
In net, Bain finished with four saves, playing the second half.
Christina Badaracco had three saves on the day.
Buck had four goals and four assists for D'Youville. Newlin finished with six goals and Gordon, four. Brinn Stworzydiak had 11 saves for the Saints.
Up next, the Eagles will head to Georgian Court for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup at 3 p.m. on April 11.
