Softball Leads In Both Games, But Swept By Dominican

Orangeburg, N.Y. – The Post University softball team took leads in both games, but was swept by Dominican University of New York, 2-1 and 6-3 on Thursday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

Post is now 8-22 overall and 4-6 in the CACC. Dominican is now 7-23 overall and 3-9 in the conference.

Game one was a scoreless pitchers' duel until the top of the fourth inning when Juliana Rigano hit a one out double before Caitlin DeAngelis drove her in with an RBI single. It would be all the Eagles would be able to muster in the inning.

The Chargers took the lead in the bottom of the inning as Giovanna Salcido hit a two-run homer to give them a 2-1 lead.

Rigano finished with two doubles in game one. Lily Tomasiello was 2-for-3.

Post starting pitcher Jenny Riquelme pitched a six-inning complete game, giving up two earned runs on four hits a walk while striking out a career-high six.

Emily Baxter earned the win for Dominican, pitching a complete game, striking out 11 and giving up just one earned run on six hits.

In game two, the Eagles trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but the team took the lead just three batters into the second inning.

Allyson Wallauer led off with her fourth homer of the season.

Tomasiello followed with a single to center field and DeAngelis hit a home run to left field, her third of the season, putting Post up, 3-2.

The Eagles threatened to score more as they loaded the bases with two outs, but a groundout ended the inning.

Dominican took the lead back as Madison Walker hit a three-run homer to go up 5-3.

The Chargers added a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-3 lead. The Eagles threatened in the top of the seventh as Samantha Riccardulli, Courtney Brobst and Wallauer all singled, loading the bases, but a fielder's choice ended the inning.

Wallauer was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Tomasiello was 2-for-4 with a run. DeAngelis was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

DeAngelis has had a hit in six straight games and has 99 hits for her career.

Alyssa Hughes pitched a complete game for Post, striking out one and giving up six earned runs.

Baxter got the win again in game two for Dominican, pitching five innings in relief, striking out five and allowing six hits.

Up next, the Eagles host Felician on April 8 at noon in a CACC doubleheader.
