Waterbury, CT - Morgan Cassiliano scored seven goals, but the Post University women's lacrosse team lost a 21-16 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match to the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday at LaMoy Field.
Post moves to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the CACC. The Purple Knights are now 5-4 and 4-1, respectively.
Cassiliano's goals tied a season-high, a feat she accomplished in a win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College on March 20.
Post scored the first two goals to take the early lead at 10:35 as
Molly Dobratz and
Gabrielle Fiora got on the board for the Eagles.
The two teams then swapped three-goal runs as Megan Kreitler scored the first of her nine goals of the game, and Emily Stuart and Danielle Kreitler scored to put Bridgeport up, 3-2 at 5:02. But the Eagles responded, first with a goal from
Athlyn Wood on a free position shot to tie the game while the Eagles were a man-up, followed by the second goal for Dobratz and the first for Cassiliano to put Post back up, 5-3. Megan Kreitler then scored two goals just 30 seconds apart, but
Cara DiStefano gave the Eagles the lead with her 20th goal of the season, giving the Eagles the 6-5 lead heading into the second.
Bridgeport scored five of the first six goals of the second as Andrea Basilicato scored twice for the Purple Knights. Dobratz had tied the game at 10:56, but Danielle Krieter gave Bridgeport an 8-7 lead just 11 seconds later. Basilicato scored two more times in the period as did Cassiliano, including one with eight seconds left and Bridgeport went into the half leading, 13-10.
Cassiliano picked up where she left off just 41 seconds into the third with her fourth of the game cutting the Eagles deficit to 13-11, but once again the Bridgeport went on a 4-1 run, including two from Megan Kreitler made it a 17-12 game.
Samantha Targonski scored with 23 seconds left as the Purple Knights led 17-13 into the fourth. The Eagles got as close as 19-16 in the fourth after back-to-back goals from
Lotanna Nwabudu and Cassiliano at the 6:15 mark, but Megan Krietler finished with the final two goals to put the game away for Bridgeport.
It was the seventh multi-goal game of the season for Cassiliano and she has scored 11 in her last two games. For Dobratz it was her second straight hat trick. Targonski, DiStefano and Wood all had a goal and an assist.
Post was 15-for-21 on clears. Bridgeport edged Post in draw controls, 21-19 as Targonski led the Eagles with six. She also had three caused turnovers.
Christina Badaracco had 19 saves, a season-high.
Basilicato had four goals and five assists for Bridgeport.
