Waterbury, CT – The Post University baseball team kept its winning streak rolling, sweeping Alliance, 10-2 and 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader.
The Eagles have now won eight straight games, the most since the 2009 season when they won ten straight. Post is now 21-12 overall and 11-1 in the CACC, sitting in first place in the North Division. The Eagles have also won 14 of their last 15 games. Alliance is 1-30 overall and 0-12 in the CACC.
Post did not trail in either game, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in game one as
Matt Goehrig hit an RBI single followed by a two-run double by
Robert Olah.
Going into the bottom of the second leading 3-1, the first three batters of the inning reached base as
Matthew Soloman and
Shane Lindemuth hit back-to-back singles before
Michael Pavelchak drove them in with a two-run double.
DJ Caron hit an RBI double to drive in Pavelchak.
The Eagles put the game away in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Pavelchak and a sacrifice fly from
Jimmy Brennan.
On the hill, starter
Derek Duval kept the Alliance bats mostly silent, pitching four innings, giving up just one run on three hits and four walks while striking out four and earning the win.
Marshall Thurman struck out three in two innings, giving up a run and
Erik Gutowski pitched a perfect seventh.
Post added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Pavelchak was 2-for-2 with three RBI a run, while drawing two walks. Brennan drove in two runs. Soloman was 2-for-3 and scored three runs and Lindemuth was 2-for-3, scoring twice.
The Eagles pitching staff kept the Alliance bats at bay in game two as starter
Vincent Borghese earned the win, throwing five innings while giving up just four hits, three walks and striking out three.
Nathaniel Byrd pitched two scoreless innings, earning his first save allowing just a walk while striking out three.
At the plate, the Eagles scored two in the third, as
Jimmy Brennan hit a two-run homer that drove in Pavelchak, taking a 2-0 lead. It was the fourth home run of the season for Brennan.
The Eagles also scored two in the sixth, including an RBI sacrifice fly by Brennan.
Brennan finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run. It's the sixth game this season he has driven in three runs or more in a game.
Hunter Keller also had two hits and a run for Post.
