Waterbury, CT – The Post University men's lacrosse team ended its 2023 regular season with a 19-5 win over Felician in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game at LaMoy Field on Friday afternoon.
Post is not 9-5 overall and finished 5-2 in the CACC. Felician finishes up 3-9 and 4-3 in the CACC.
After no scoring for over nine minutes,
Robbie McGrayne got the Eagles on the board in a man-up situation on a pass from
Nicholas Steele to put the Eagles up, 1-0 at the 5:50 mark. From there, the Eagles poured it on.
Just 61 seconds later
Braedan Lockyer scored the first of his four goals on a pass from
Ryan Denike. McGrayne added a second goal in the period at 2:59 and
Leighton Cooke scored the first of his three goals just 33 seconds later. On McGrayne's second goal,
Hayden Hindman rushed towards the net, and the Felician defense collapsed on him and found an open McGrayne.
The Golden Falcons got on the board at 1:24 before Cooke scored his second of the game with five seconds left in the first.
In a low-scoring second period, no one scored until the 8:42 mark when Felician's Robert Grasso scored, but Lockyer scored, rushing from the side of the net for a point-blank shot to make it a 6-2 game.
Tim Keefe scored his first of the game at 4:12 as Post took a 7-2 lead into the break.
The Eagles put the game out of reach in the third, outscoring Felician, 9-1, as the Eagles scored the first nine goals of the period.
Dylan Heald scored back-to-back goals, the first comingat 14:10, followed by back-to-back from Keefe to make it an 11-2 game. Five different Eagles scored the final five goals of the period as Denike, Cooke, Heald, Hindman and
Nathan Chalut all scored, making it a 16-2 game. Felician tacked on their onl goal in the period with 23 seconds left.
With the game in hand in the fourth, Lockyer scored twice and Heald once.
Heald and Lockyer both finished with four goals. Keefe and Cooke each had a hat trick. McGrayne had two goals and two assists. Denike had a goal and a career-high five assists.
It was Lockyer and Heald's eighth game this season with at least a hat trick. Heald is currently second in both goals (40) and points (60).
Lockyer is third in goals with 39 and fifth in points with 55.
Post won the groundball battle, 37-26, with
Jaxon Holden leading the way with eight. He was also 18-for-26 in faceoffs.
Cole George stopped eight shots for the Eagles in three periods.
Russell Robinson stopped three.
The Eagles, seeded fourth in the CACC tournament, will take on No. 5 Dominican on May 1, with a time to be announced at LaMoy Field.
