Eagles Pitching In Complete Control As Baseball Sweeps Bridgeport

Waterbury, CT  – The Post University baseball team continued its torrid pace thanks to two gems on the mound as the Eagles swept the University of Bridgeport, 7-1 and 4-0 on Senior Day in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday.

The Eagles are now 27-13 overall and 17-2 in the CACC, while Bridgeport is now 7-33 overall and 3-15 in the CACC.

With an Eagles win or a Felician loss, the Eagles will clinch their second straight CACC North Division regular season title.

In game one, Justin Portes best outing of the season, throwing eight innings, giving up just one earned run on five hits while striking out seven, moving his record to 4-2.

The Post offense did the rest of the work, scoring a run in both the second and third innings on an RBI double by Hunter Keller and an RBI single by DJ Caron, respectively.

Post took complete control in the fourth, scoring four times in the bottom of the inning as the first four batters reached safely, including an RBI single from Matthew Soloman and a two-run triple by Shane Lindemuth that scored Soloman and Keller. Jimmy Brennan added one more RBI single in the inning to make it a 6-0 game.

Post tacked on one more run in the sixth on an RBI single in bottom of the sixth. Bridgeport scored its lone run in the eighth.

The seven strikeouts for Portes was a career-high, surpassing his previous high of five, which he did twice.

Matt Goehrig was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Lindemuth was 1-for-2 with two RBI, two walks and a run. Brennan was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

In a game two pitchers' duel, Joe Christiana pitched six innings, giving up no runs on two hits and two walks while striking out five, while his counterpart James Ackerman kept the Eagles scoreless until the bottom of the sixth.

In the sixth, the rally started as Michael Pavelchak reached on an error, followed by back-to-back singles by Brennan and Caron.

With runners on second and third, Robert Olah got the Eagles on the board with a sacrifice fly. After a walk to Chris Corchado to load the bases,
Keller gave the Eagles breathing room with a two-run single. Manny Contreras added the final insurance run with an RBI double.

Jacob Tamburrino pitched an inning of relief, striking out one.

Keller was 2-for-2 with two RBI. Pavelchak, Brennan and Caron were all 1-for-3 with a run.

For Christiana, it was the sixth time he has pitched at least five innings.

Ackerman struck out six in 5.2 innings for Bridgeport.

Up next, the Eagles go on the road to take on Chestnut Hill in a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at noon.
