Softball Loses Two To Caldwell; Wallauer Homers

Waterbury, CT  – The Post University softball team was swept by Caldwell, 11-3, 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

Post is now 12-30 overall and 5-13 in the CACC. Caldwell moves to 26-11 and 17-3 in the CACC.

In game one, the Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second as the Eagles loaded the bases for Leyri Rivera who hit a two-run single up the middle to give Post a 2-0 lead. After Caitlin DeAngelis was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, the Eagles scored one more time as a wild pitch while Lily Tomasiello was at-bat allowed Carli Perruso to score, just getting under the tag at the plate.

Caldwell scored two in the fourth as the Eagles committed two errors that led to two runs and tied the game in the fifth on an RBI double from Maya Rodriguez.

However in the sixth, the Cougars erupted for seven runs, taking the lead on an RBI single from Brooke Martin that scored Alexis Lee who doubled to open the inning. Rodriguez added another RBI to her total on a single. Ashleigh Tavaska added a two-run double to open up the game to a 9-3 lead.

The Eagles would not get any closer the rest of the way as Caldwell allowed just two runners on base from the third inning on.
Rivera was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Brobst was 2-for-3.

In game two, Caldwell opened up the game with four runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a two-run single from Tavaska.

Post cut the lead in half on Allyson Wallauer's sixth home run of the season.

That would be the only runs the Eagles would get three hits the rest of the way.

Caldwell scored once in the third and twice in the fourth on a two-run single by Rodriguez.

Up next, the Eagles will take on AIC on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m.
