Bridgeport, CT. – The Post University baseball team just keeps rolling along, this time defeating the University of Bridgeport, 15-1 in seven innings in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Wednesday.
The Eagles are now 25-13 overall and 15-2 in the CACC, and have won 18 of their last 20 games. Bridgeport is now 7-31 overall and 3-13 in the conference.
Post jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first on just two hits.
Michael Pavelchak led off with a double.
DJ Caron was hit by a pitch and
Robert Olah walked to load the bases, and the next batter,
Matt Goehrig was hit by a pitch, allowing Pavelchak to score. The Eagles made it a 2-0 game after a wild pitch scored Caron and
Chris Corchado hit a two-run double to cap the scoring in the inning.
Bridgeport scored their lone run in the bottom of the inning, which the Eagles got back after a bases loaded walk to Goehrig that scored Pevelchk, who singled with one out.
The Eagles went up 9-1 after the fourth, including an RBI single from Corchado and a two-run single by
Shane Lindemuth. Post went on to score in the final four innings of the game, with two more in the fifth on an RBI triple from Caron to score
Jimmy Brennan who doubled to open the inning.
Brennan drove in two runs in the top of the sixth on a triple and Goehrig added an RBI double in the inning. Post scored its final run on a fielder's choice by Pavelchak. The game would end via the mercy rule.
Goehrig reached base in all five plate appearances and scored two runs while driving in four. Corchado was 20for-5 with three RBI. Pavelchak
was 3-for-6 with three runs and an RBI. Caron was 1-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. Brennan was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run.
Dan Raglievich earned his fourth win of the season, allowing just one earned run on six hits and a walk while striking out seven. Vincent
Borghese pitched a perfect seventh for the Eagles.
The 15 runs tied a season-high for the Eagles, matching a total they had in a win over Saint Anselm earlier this season. The Eagles were also hit by a pitch six times.
The two teams meet again on Saturday, April 22 at noon for a doubleheader.
Eagles Make Noise In Polls
The Eagles moved up a spot in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association to ninth after a sweep against Wilmington on Sunday. The Eagles received 20 votes. In the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association, the Eagles sit at third, behind just Southern New Hampshire University and Southern Connecticut State University.
