Softball Swept By Wilmington

Waterbury, CT – The Post University softball team was swept in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, 4-0 and 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

During game two, a pitchers' duel ensued for the first three innings between Post's Jennifer Riquelme and Wilmington's Kylee Gunkel. Riquelme struck out two batters in the top half of the first, while Gunkel struck out the side in the bottom of the inning.

The Wildcats broke through in the top of the fourth with a run and two more in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer from Lexi Moore.

Post got one back as Carli Perruso scored after a groundout from Brooke Dickenson after Perruso singled to lead off the inning, but a two-run single by Moore in the top of the seventh put the Wildcats back up, 5-1.

In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles attempted a two-out rally as Courtney Brobst hit a solo homer, followed by a single from Julia Maida, but the Eagles were unable to get another run across.

In game one, the Eagles were held to just three hits as Wilmington scored one in the top of the third and three in the top of the fifth on a three-run homer by Sara Miller.

Caitlin DeAngelis and Perruso each had singles for the Eagles, while Lily Tomasiello had a double.

Maddison Caldwell pitched a complete game seven innings, striking out three.

Up next, the Eagles host the University of New Haven in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday, with the first game starting at 2:30 p.m.
