Softball Scores Program-Record 22 Runs In Wild Game Two As Eagles Split With Saint Rose

Albany, N.Y. – The Post University softball team scored 13 runs in the top of the ninth inning in a wild 22-11 win in game two of a doubleheader against The College of Saint Rose on Thursday afternoon. The Golden Knights took game one, 6-1.

The 22 runs in game two was a program record, surpassing the 20 runs they scored in a 2019 game against Nyack.

The two teams were tied after the seventh, 6-6 and the eighth at 9-9. In the top of the ninth with Leyri Rivera starting the inning on second base, Caitlin DeAngelis and Allyson Wallauer were hit on back to back at-bats to load the bases.

From there, Lily Tomasiello and Juliana Rigano hit back-to-back RBI singles to put the Eagles up 11-9. Samantha Riccardulli then drew a bases loaded walk and Julianna Cicala hit a two-run single to increase the Eagles' lead to 14-9. A single from Courtney Brobst loaded the bases again, leading to a pitching change.

However, the Eagles didn't stop, as a Julia Maida RBI single and a passed ball, made it a 16-9 game. The Eagles batted around as Rivera hit a two-run double, making it an 18-9 game. Wallauer would hit an RBI single, Riccardulli added an RBI on a fielder's choice and Cicala capped the inning with a two-run single  as the Eagles led, 22-9.

The Golden Knights scored two in the bottom of the inning, but did not threaten the Eagles.

Post led 6-1 earlier in the game, scoring two runs in the top of the first on RBI singles by Wallauer and Riccardulli. Rigano added an RBI single in the third, DeAngelis had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Riccardulli ripped a two-run double in the top of the fifth.

The Golden Knights rallied with one in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth inning on a two-run homer from Ellen Fuda. The Eagles led 6-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but an error allowed two runs to score to send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, the Eagles scored three runs, including a bases loaded walk from Cicala and a two-run single by Brobst.

The Golden Knights rallied again with three of their own, scoring twice on an error off the bat from Abby Behrikis and tied the game on an RBI single by Ciana Phillips.

Rivera finished with a career-high five hits, while driving in two runs and scoring two. DeAngelis was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Wallauer was 3-for-6 with a career-high five runs and two RBI. Rigano scored three runs and had two RBI and Riccardulli and Cicala both drove in career-highs with five RBI.
The Eagles 22 hits were also a program high.

In game one, the Eagles lone run came on a home run by Allyson Wallauer, which was the 20th of her career in the top of the first, but the Golden Knights scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a two-run double by Alexandra Deeter and a two-run single by Mattison Muller.

The Eagles return to action on Sunday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m.
