Waterbury, CT – Jennifer Riquelme threw a one-hitter in game two in an 8-0 win as the Post University softball team split with Bloomfield on Wednesday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. Bloomfield won game one, 4-2.
Riquelme's one hitter was the first in her career as she pitched a six inning complete game, striking out one and walking just one. The lone hit was a single on a bang-bang play at first base in the top of the sixth off the bat of Jenna O'Reilly.
The Eagles bats did the rest of the work after a scoreless three innings.
Post got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from
Julianna Cicala that scored
Courtney Brobst, who doubled with one out in the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles scored four more times.
Caitlin DeAngelis and
Allyson Wallauer singled, followed by a walk to
Lily Tomasiello loaded the bases.
Bailey Dickenson came up hitting a ball to third base. DeAngelis was forced out at home, but the throw to first base to get Dickenson was overthrown and Wallauer was able to score. Brobst then followed with an RBI single of her own, and Cicala hit a single that scored Brobst and
Julia Maida, who pinch ran.
The Eagles ended the game via the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth.
Samantha Riccardulli was hit by a pitch to start the rally. After a fly out, DeAngelis doubled to put runners on second and third and Wallauer drove in Riccardulli with an RBI single. A s single from Tomasiello made it a 7-0 game and Brobst ended the game with a long single off the fence to score Wallauer to give the Eagles the win.
Brobst went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Wallauer was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Cicala was 2-for-3 with two RBI. DeAngelis was 2-for-4 with a run.
In game one, the Eagles (9-25, 5-9 CACC) scored twice in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly from Wallauer and an RBI single from
Juliana Rigano.
Maddison Caldwell kept the Bears (9-26, 6-7 CACC) quiet until the top of the sixth when they got their first hit of the game from Audrianna Ortiz. The Bears would go on to score four runs in the inning as an RBI double from O'Reilly put the Bears on the board. Daniela Vidal tied it with an RBI single. Back-to-back RBI singles from Miya Payne and Spencer Ventura put the Bears up, 4-2.
The Eagles had an opportunity to tie in the bottom of the seventh, but the Eagles left runners on second and third.
Up next, the Eagles head to Saint Rose for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m.
