Waterbury, CT – The Post University men's lacrosse team put together its most impressive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win of the year, defeating Caldwell, 21-6 on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
Post moves to 7-4 on the season and 3-1 in the CACC. Caldwell is now 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
The Eagles gave up the first two goals of the game, but quickly rebounded, scoring the final two of the period on goals from
Robbie McGrayne and
Braedan Lockyer as the two teams were tied, 2-2 after the first quarter.
From there, the Eagles poured on the goals, scoring nine times in the second, the first coming from
Hayden Hindman to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead at 11:12 in the second and one from
Ryan Denike at 9:06.
After a goal by Caldwell's Michael Brown made it a one-goal game, the Eagles rattled off the final seven goals of the half, including three straight from
Hayden Hindman, all which were assisted by Lockyer in a span of 1:14. Lockyer also added two goals in the period, including one with 17 seconds remaining, and
Dylan Heald scored two of his four goals, just 16 seconds apart.
Post continued its scoring streak into the third, scoring the first three as Lockyer scored his fourth of the game as the Eagles had a man-up situation, followed by two more from McGrayne, both on assists from Heald.
The Eagles defense, along with goalkeeper
Cole George allowed just three goals in the second half, as the Eagles continued to increase the lead throughout.
The Eagles had five different goal scorers for each of their five goals in the final period, including one from
Tim Keefe and
Noah Piette.
Lockyer finished with a career-high nine points as he finished with five goals and four assists on the day. Hindman also had a career-high with five goals. Heald had four goals and two assists while McGrayne scored four times. It was the third straight game McGrayne has scored at least four goals.
The Eagles currently have four of the top five point leaders in the CACC. Heald is first with 49, followed by McGrayne (44) and Lockyer (43). Denike is fifth with 29.
It was the second largest victory this season by the Eagles, only topped by a 24-7 win over Alderson Broaddus.
The Eagles have won the last two meetings against Caldwell.
George finished with eight saves on the day.
Garret Ciccia and Jayden Paladino each scored twice for Caldwell.
