Softball Downed By Franklin Pierce In Doubleheader Opener

Waterbury, CT - The Post University softball team lost both ends of their opening doubleheader of the 2023 season to Franklin Piece, 11-0 and 14-2 on Monday afternoon in non-conference play.

In game two, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead early behind an RBI single from Lily Tomasiello, who drove home Allyson Wallauer, who walked with two outs. After a single from Samantha Riccardulli and a walk from Bailey Dickenson, the Eagles went up 2-0 as Julianna Cicala ripped a ball to third that Franklin Pierce's Haley Bigwood couldn't handle, allowing Tomasiello to score.

The Ravens would score three in the top of the second, highlighted by a two-run single from Bella Williams. But the big inning for the Ravens came in the top of the third as they scored eight runs, including a three-run homer from Ashley Cangiano.

Franklin Pierce added one more run in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Tomasiello finished the day 2-for-3, including a double to go with an RBI and a run. Caitlin DeAngelis also had a double on the day.

During game one, Franklin Pierce scored three in the first as Bigwood and Lita Vorseth each had RBI singles.

The Eagles managed to get runners into scoring position in the first two innings as Wallauer doubled with two outs in the first and Riccardulli doubled to lead off the second, but both runners were unable to cross the plate.

The Ravens would go onto score five in the top of the fourth as they loaded the bases and scored on a hit batter, a walk a sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Cangiano.

Leyri Rivera had two hits for the Eagles in the game.

Up next, the Eagles go on their Spring Break trip, beginning with a game against Rollins College at 5 p.m. in Winter Park, FL.
