Cassiliano Scores Four, But Women's Lacrosse Surrenders Early Lead, Loses To Saint Michael's

Colchester, VT. - Morgan Cassiliano scored four times and the Post University women's lacrosse team held an early lead, but fell to Saint Michael's 12-7 on Monday.

Cassiliano scored two straight to open the game, including the second on a pass from Athlyn Wood off a free position at the 10:15 mark.

Molly Dobratz would follow at the 6:55 mark with her first goal of the season, splitting the defense and taking a close shot past Saint Michael's goalkeeper, Abby Cole.

The Purple Knights (1-0) would get back-to-back goals from Catie Murphy as she scored the final goal of the first period and first goal of the second to cut Post's lead to 3-2. Samantha Targonski then scored her first of the year on a free position shot.

Saint Michael's added two more to tie the game, 4-4, including Murphy's third at the 3:51 mark before Cassiliano gave Post the lead back just 43 seconds later on a goal off of an isolation play. The Purple Knights scored with 38 seconds left to make it a 5-5 game at the half.

The Purple Knights scored the first four goals of the second half as Murphy scored her fourth at the 3:15 mark to give them the 9-5 lead before Cassiliano scored her fourth. Post (0-2) was only able to get to within three the rest of the way as Cara DiStefano scored her second of the year at the 6:57 mark in the fourth to make it a 10-7 game until Erin Stolz and Molly Gannon added two insurance goals for Saint Michael's.

Christina Badaracco had 11 saves in net for the Eagles.

For Cassiliano, it was her 37th game in her career where she scored at least a hat trick. She now has 194 goals in her career. Post had 12 shots on goal on the day with DiStefano and Cassiliano leading the way with four apiece.

Up next, the Eagles head to Albany to take on The College of Saint Rose on Friday, March 10 at 3 p.m.
