Morehead City, N.C. - The Post University baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Franklin Pierce, 5-4 and 8-3 on Saturday.
Post is now 6-8 on the season and the Ravens are 7-1.
In game one - a seven-inning game - after falling behind 5-1 after the fifth inning, the Eagles rallied to score three runs in the top of the seventh. After
Robert Olah reached on an error and
Hunter Keller singled with two outs, Chris Corchardo singled to centerfield to score two runs to make it a 5-3 game. The next batter,
Michael Pavelchak then doubled to drive in pinch runner
Kaige Garrity, making it a 5-4 game. The next batter,
Evan Cornwell waled, but a fly out ended the game, with runners left on first and second.
Earlier in the game, the Ravens jumped out to a 2-0 lead, the first run coming on a Jose Savinon home run.
Post got one back on an RBI single from Corchado to score
Matthew Soloman. The Ravens then went on to score one run in each of the next three innings to take a 5-1 lead before the Eagles' rally in the seventh.
On the mound,
Brennan Holligan started and pitched five innings, striking out six, giving up five runs, three earned. Chaz Powell earned the win for the Ravens, striking out three in 6.2 innings.
Corchado was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Hunter Keller was 2-for-3 with a run.
In game two, the Ravens scored four runs in the top of the first on two-run singles from Savinon and Hunter Wilichoski.
Post scored one on an error in the second to get on the board, but two more runs in the third gave the Ravens a 6-1 lead.
Olah, who had 11 homers last season, hit his first of the year, making it a 6-2 game in the third. Post added its final run on an RBI double from Soloman, making it a 6-3 game. The Ravens went on to add two more runs, one in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Danny Gill went 2-for-3 with a run. Olah also went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.
In relief for
Joe Christiana,
Vincent Borghese struck out four in five innings, allowing two runs, one of them earned.
Hunter Reynolds pitched a seven-inning complete game, striking out ten and earning the win for the Ravens.
The two teams meet for their finale on Sunday at 10 a.m.
