Joe Christiana pitched a gem in game two as part of a sweep of Caldwell for the Post University baseball team on Friday at Municipal Stadium. Post won game one, 12-6 followed by a 2-1 pitchers' duel in game two.
Post is now 17-12 overall and 7-1 in the CACC. The Eagles have won four straight and ten of 11. Caldwell is now 7-14 overall and 1-7 in the CACC.
In game two, Christiana pitched 5.2 innings, tying a career-high nine strikeouts, allowing just one earned run, giving up just three hits and three walks.
Christiana struck out the side in the third and two in the second inning.
The two runs for the Eagles were enough as Post scored their two runs in the bottom of the fourth after a scoreless 3.5 innings. Post scored on an error by Caldwell starting pitcher John Rigas and a sacrifice fly by
Matt Goehrig that scored Caron.
Caldwell's lone run came in the top of the sixth on an RBI double from Malik Little.
Jacob Tamburrino earned the save, pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit.
In game one,the Eagles offense had two big scoring innings, with five in the bottom of the second and seven runs in the seventh.
Post went down 2-0 after the top of the first, but Caldwell's lead evaporated quickly as
Evan Cornwell and
Matthew Soloman both singled and
Michael Pavelchak followed with an RBI double to score Cornwell. WIth runners on second and third,
Jimmy Brennan hit a two-run single, taking a 3-2 lead. A single by Caron put runners on first and second, and
Danny Gill drove in Brennan with a single.
Robert Olah then added an RBI single, making it a 5-2 game.
The Cougars scored one in the top of the sixth, but the Eagles put the game away in the bottom of the seventh as the first eight batters reached base.
Hunter Keller hit a single to score Olah and Goehrig as they singled and doubled, respectively. Cornwell followed with an RBI single.
Soloman followed with a walk, putting runners of first and second. Pavelchak then reached on an error, followed by RBI singles from Brennan and Caron. They'd add one more run on a double play.
Caldwell scored three in the top of the ninth, but never threatened.
Pavelchak was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Brennan was 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Caron was 3-for-5 with an RBI and run. Cornwell went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. Soloman was 1-for-3 with two runs and two walks.
Dan Raglievich earned the win and is 3-3 on the season. He pitched 5.2 innings, striking out six, giving up just three earned runs on six hits.
Brennan Holligan struck out three in 1.2 innings of relief.
