Orangeburg, N.Y. – The Post University baseball team got off on the right foot in conference play, defeating Dominican University, 5-4 in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Thursday.

Danny Gill drove in the first of his three runs in the first inning on an RBI groundout that scored DJ Caron who singled to open the game to put the Eagles up 1-0.

After the Chargers scored two in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead, the Eagles started a rally in the top of the fifth, beginning  with an RBI single by Evan Cornwell. Cornwell advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Shane Lindemuth, setting the stage for Caron who singled to score Cornwell, tying the game.

Michael Pavelchak reached on an error, and with runners on second and third, Gill gave the Eagles the 4-2 lead lead with a two-run single.
An RBI single by Peter Kiefer cut Post's lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh, but the Eagles got what turned out to be an important insurance run Evan Wilkinson scored on a double play after pinch running for Chris Corchado, who singled to lead off the inning.

Dominican added one more in the bottom of the eighth, but left a runner stranded on third.
