Late Heroics In Game One Earns Softball Split With SCSU

New Haven, CT - The Post University softball team split a doubleheader with Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), winning game one, 6-4 before dropping game two, 6-1.

In the game one win, the two teams were knotted up at 3-3 in the top of the sixth when Courtney Brobst started the rally with a one out double followed by a walk to Caitlin DeAngelis. With runners on first and second, Allyson Wallauer ripped a double to score Brobst and Lily Tomasiello followed with what would be an important two-run double to put the Eagles up, 6-3.

The Owls scored a run in the bottom of the seventh but left runners on the corners as the Eagles got their second win of the season.

Earlier in the game, the Owls scored two in the bottom of the second inning including a steal of home from Angela Barresi.

Post would end up taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from DeAngelis and a two-run double from Wallauer to score DeAngelis and Brobst. The Owls added a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game on an RBI single from Jacqueline Dumont.

Wallauer finished the game, 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Tomasiello was 2-for-4 with two RBU. Brobst was 1-for-4 with two runs and a walk. DeAngelis was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

In game two, the Owls used a five-run bottom of the sixth after a pitchers' duel through the first five innings. With the Owls up 1-0 after scoring in the first, Dumont led off the inning with a solo homer. The Owls added four more runs in the inning, including RBI doubles from Gabriella Festa and Nadia Cestari.

Post scored one in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by DeAngelis that scored Brobst, who also doubled.
