Softball Swept By Bridgeport In CACC Opener

Bridgeport, CT - The Post University softball team lost both ends of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opening doubleheader,, 9-1 (5 innings) and 7-1 to the University of Bridgeport on Tuesday.

The Eagles lone run of game one came on a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning with the Eagles from Allyson Wallauer when the Eagles were down 9-0. Wallauer was 2-for-3 in the game.

The Purple Knights built their nine-run lead, hitting three home runs in the first two innings, including a three-run shot from Mya Jones in the first and a two-run homer in the second. Madison D'Amato also hit a two-run homer in the second.

Courtney Brobst hit a double for the Eagles.

In relief, Alyssa Hughes struck out two in 2.2 innings.

Jones finished with five RBi for Bridgeport.

After a scoreless two innings in game two, Bridgeport scored two runs on RBI singles from Jones and Samantha Schiebe in the bottom of the third.

The Eagles got on the board in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Lily Tomasiello that drove in Wallauer who opened the inning with a single.

However, Bridgeport scored three in the bottom of the fourth, including RBI doubles from D'Amato and Jones. They'd add two more in the bottom of the fifth

Wallauer had both hits for the Eagles.

Maddison Caldwell struck out three in a complete game for Post.

Up next, the Eagles take on Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader on the road.
