Cassiliano Scores 200th Career Goal As Women's Lacrosse Defeats STAC For First Win

Waterbury, CT - Morgan Cassiliano scored her 200th career goal as part of a seven-goal performance as the Post University women's lacrosse team defeated Saint Thomas Aquinas, 17-8 for its first win of the season on Monday afternoon.

Cassiliano, the school's all-time leading goal scorer, came into the game needing just three goals to hit the historic mark. She now has 204 in her career.

The Spartans struck first at 11:59 in the first, but it would be the only time the Eagles would trail, as Molly Dobratz scored one minute later before Cassiliano scored her first of the game to give Post the 2-1 edge.

After a brief tie, the Eagles scored the final three goals over the last 3:09 of the first, including the second goal for both Cassilliano and Dobratz and one from Cara DiStefano to make it a 5-2 game after the first.

Post went on to score the first seven goals of the second as part of its 10-0 game-defining run as Dobratz, Cassiliano and Gabrielle Fiora each scored twice in the period while DiStefano and Hailey McHenry each scored one in the period. The Spartans scored the final two goals of the second with under a minute remaining as the Eagles led 12-4 heading into halftime. Cassiliano's 200th goal came at the 8:40 mark that made it a 7-2 game at the time.

Arianna Tribble opened up the second half with a goal for the Spartans, but the Eagles scored the next four, including the last three from Cassiliano and one from DiStefano to put the Eagles up, 16-5. Dobratz added one more goal, her fourth of the game, in the final period.

DiStefano finished with a hat trick for the Eagles. Along with her four goals, Dobratz also added an assist. McHenry had two assists to go with her goal and Fiora also had an assist. Samantha Targonski had one assist.

Post had 18 ground balls on the day, led by Leeana Grandel and Lauren Bain, each with four. Post had 21 draw controls, as DiStefano had a team-high eight.

Christina Badaracco had eight saves. Lauren Bain had five.

Post is now 1-4 on the season and are back in action on Wednesday in a home game against Caldwell in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
