Leesburg, FL. - The Post University softball team won its first game of the season in a 12-4 win over American International College on Friday in their final day of their Spring Break Florida trip. Earlier in the day they lost to Purdue Northwest, 16-2.
The Eagles used a big second and third inning after scoring two in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double from
Caitlin DeAngelis.Â
In the second inning, the Eagles turned a two-run lead into an 8-0 game as the first seven batters reached base.
Brianna Hynds opened with a single to center. After
Brooke Dickenson reached on an error and
Samantha Riccardulli waslked, Courtney Brost hit a double to right, clearing the bases and giving the Eagles a 5-0 lead.
Allyson Wallauer then followed with an RBI single and DeAngelis and
Lily Tomasiello hit back-to-back RBI doubles to take the eight-run lead.Â
Post tacked on four more runs in the top of the third, as this time the first four batters reached base. The Eagles loaded the bases via two walks and a hit batter before Wallauer doubled to clear the bases and make it an 11-0 game. Wallauer then stole home to take a 12-0Â lead.
AIC scored two in the third and fifth, but didn't get within eight and the Eagles took down the Yellow Jackets in eight innings.
Wallauer was 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. Brobst was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring three runs with three RBI. DeAngelis was 20for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Maddison Caldwell won her first game of the season, pitching four innings and allowing just two uearned runs on one hit and two walks.
In game one against Purdue Northwest, the Pride scored four runs in the first and two in the second to take an early 6-0 lead. Post scored two in the bottom of the third, on a two-run ringle from
Julianna Cicala. However, the Pride scored three in the fourth and seven in the sixth inning to put the game away. The Pride had 21 hits on the day, led by Selena Michko who was 4-for-4 with six RBI and three runs.
Cicala led the Eagles with two hits.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, as they trael to the University of Bridgeport for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opening doubleheader.
