Lantana, FL. – The Post University baseball team ended its Florida Spring Break Trip with its third straight win, a 10-2 victory over Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU).
It is the third win over SCSU this season for the Eagles. The Owls are currently ranked fifth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) East Region.
For the third straight game, the Eagles used a big inning to help separate themselves from their opponent.
The two teams swapped runs in the third inning as
DJ Caron drove in
Evan Cornwell with an RBI single.
SCSU took a brief lead on a wild pitch on a third strike with the bases loaded, but it would be the last time the Owls crossed the plate as the Eagles ripped off five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Once again, it was Caron, who doubled down the left field line after Cornwell and
Shane Lindemuth reached on errors.
Michael Pavelchak followed with a sacrifice bunt that resulted in the third error of the inning for the Owls and giving Post a 4-2 lead.
After a walk to
Robert Olah,
Chris Corchado and
Hunter Keller hit back-to-back RBI singles to drive in Pavelchak and Olah, respectively to take a 6-2 lead.
The Eagles' offense continued its hot play in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four times, as
Jimmy Brennan hit an RBI single to score Caron, who walked with one out. After a fielder's choice by
Danny Gill, Olah, Corchado and Keller each hit RBI singles to give Post a 10-2 lead.
The Eagles' pitching staff of starter
Derek Duval,
Dan Raglievich and
Brennan Holligan combined for just two earned runs, on ten hits, while striking out five.
The Eagles finished their Florida trip 3-3 and are now 10-11 on the season. The Owls are now 11-5.
For the six-game Florida trip, Caron was 13-for-28 with four runs, three doubles and eight RBI to go with a .619 slugging percentage. Olah was 9-for-22 with six RBI and ten runs. Gill was 10-for-28 with nine runs, five RBI.
Up next, the Eagles open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a game at Dominican on Thursday, March 23.
