Springfield, MA. - The Post University men's lacrosse team won its second straight game, defeating American International College (AIC), 13-6 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference road game.
Three Eagles had multiple goals in the game, including
Robbie McGrayne who led the Eagles with four goals.
Hayden Hindman had a hat trick and
Dylan Heald scored twice.
Post conceded the first goal on the day just under four minutes into the game before Hindman got the Eagles on the board at the 7:29 mark, spinning off his defender, Brian McGowan and finding an open lane for a shot that he put past goalkeeper Hayden Gaudette to tie the game up.
Tim Keefe gave the Eagles their first lead of the game, juking his defender one-on-one for his seventh goal of the season.
AIC took back the lead, opening the second period with two goals, but the lead was only held for 43 seconds as
Leighton Cooke scored his sixth of the season sprinting 20 yards and firing his shot past Gaudette to make it 3-3 with 8:11 remaining. McGrayne then followed with back-to-back foals, on assists from Hindman and
Ryan Denike. Denike would then put the Eagles up 6-3 on a man-up goal as Heald fed him just outside of the crease next to the left Post and scored his eighth of the season.Â
AIC scored with nine seconds in the half on the first of two goals from McGowan, as Post took a 6-4 lead into the locker room.
Post (4-2) pulled away in the third period, out scoring AIC, 5-0 in the period, including McGrayne's third goal of the game as Heald forced a turnover, grabbed a ground ball as the Eagles had a 2-on-1 break. Heald found an open McGrayne to make it a 7-4 game. Heald then scored his first goal of the game as McGrayne found him cutting to the net to make it an 8-4 game. Hindman would end up scoring two times in the period, including one with 21 seconds remaining in the third and Heald scored his second as Post took a commanding 11-4 lead into the fourth.
Lockyer put the game away at the 11:28 mark in the fourth, scoring his 15th goal of the season on an assist from
Zack Gignac. McGrayne would add his fourth of the game as the Yellow Jackets (2-4) never threatened in the second half.
For McGrayne, it was his fourth game with at least three goals this season. He is now second in the CACC with 16 goals, one goal behind Heald, who leads the CACC with 17. Lockyer is tied for third in goals.
Russell Robinson earned his second straight win in net, stopping seven shots in the first half.
Nathan Carfagna played in goal in the second half, stopping eight shots.
Post had 39 groundballs to just 30 for AIC.
Jaxon Holden led the way with eight.
Peter Naboka and Heald each had four. Post also led in shots on goal, 30-21.
The Eagles now lead the all-time series against AIC, 6-3, including two straight wins.
Up next, the Eagles will take on Drew University at 7 p.m. on March 15 on the road.
