Heald Scores Six Goals, But Men's Lacrosse On Wrong End Of One Goal Game Against Molloy

Waterbury, CT - Dylan Heald scored five goals, but the Post University men's lacrosse team lost a close 13-12 game to the Molloy University Lions on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Eagles who are now 4-3 overall. The Lions are now 6-3 on the season.

The Lions jumped out to an early 4-1 lead at the 10:12 with Heald scoring the lone goal during the opening stretch for the Eagles, while the Lions got two goals from Jack Herzlinger.

But the Eagles took control, scoring four goals over the final six minutes of the first quarter, the first two coming from Tim Keefe, for his ninth and tenth goal of the season, and one goal each from Braedan Lockyer and Leighton Cooke. On Lockyer's goal - his 15th of the season - he was swarmed by three defenders, but whipped a shot from 15 yards out past Molloy goalkeeper, Christian Michaels that made it a 4-4 game. Cooke gave the Eagles the lead with just 52 seconds remaining in the first quarter as Keefe found him alone 15 yards out. Cooke took two steps and took a low shot to make it a 5-4 game.

Molloy took the lead back in the second as Chris Delaney And scored his second goal of the game to tie it and Ryan Downing scored at the 7:10 mark of the third to give the Lions a 6-5 lead, but Hayden Hindman scored his tenth of the season taking a feed from Heald and firing a shot past Michaels, making it a 6-6 game at the 4:12 mark. The score remained tied going into halftime.

Both teams exchanged a goal apiece in the first minute as Robbie McGrayne scored just 32 seconds into the half when Heald found him cutting to the net, giving Post the 7-6 lead. The Lions scored 17 seconds later on a goal from Scott Capicchioni.

Once again the Eagles went on a scoring run with three consecutive goals in the third, two of which came from Heald. At the 11:49 mark, Heald gave the Eagles the 8-7 lead after some nifty passing from his teammates. Cooke made a pass to McGrayne on the left side, who touch passed it to Heald who split two defenders and took a shot right in front of the net for his third of the game. Lockyer added his second of the game with a precision shot that went past the left shoulder of Michaels, just under the crossbar and pipe to make it a 9-7 game. McGrayne and Heald then connected again at the 5:38 mark on a 2-on 1 break with a little give and go, giving Post the 10-7 edge.

Molloy then responded with three of their own in the third, including Delaney's third of the game and one from Sean Plasencia with 20 seconds left in the period.

In the fourth, Heald scored his fourth of the game, giving the Eagles the 11-10 lead. Once again, it was McGrayne who found an unguarded Heald who snuck behind Michaels and scored on an alley-oop pass at the 13:12 mark.

However, the Lions scored three straight including the fourth from Delaney and a third from Herzlinger just 57 seconds apart to take a 12-11 lead. Mikey Rodin scored an insurance goal with 3:49 remaining. Heald scored his fifth og the game with 13 seconds left, but the Eagles were unable to get another offensive opportunity.

Heald now has 22 goals on the season, leading the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). McGrayne and Lockyer are both tied for second with 17. It was Heald's sixth multi-goal game of the season. His seven points were the second most he's had in a game this year. McGrayne finished with a goal and team-high four assists. Keefe added an assist. Ryan Benike had two assists.

Molloy held the edge in shots on goal, 27-21. Post had 27 groundballs on the day, with Jaxon Holden leading the way with six. Cole George stopped 14 shots for Post.

Delaney finished with four goals and an assist for Molloy. Herzlinger had three goals and an assist.

Up next, the Eagles host the University of Bridgeport in their CACC opener on Sunday, March 26 at 11 a.m. at LaMoy Field.
