Men's Hockey Strikes First, But Loses To Assumption

Worcester, Mass. - The Post University men's hockey team took an early lead, but lost 5-2 to Assumption on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 (NE10) action.

Post is now 6-17-1 on the season and 4-12-1 in the NE10. Assumption moves to 15-9-1 overall and 11-5-1 in the conference.

The Eagles got on the board first as Nick Weber scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season at the 9:05 mark as Niko Grollman found him as he ripped a shot from the slot. Lucas Baksay also added an assist on the goal.

The Greyhounds tied up the game at 15:17 with a goal from William Roberts before taking their first lead of the game with just one minute remaining in the period on a goal from Shane Sullivan.

Post would tie the game at the 7:59 mark in the second, as Conner Murray got a loose puck in front of the net and shoved it into the net for his second goal of the season.

The Greyhounds took the lead for good in the second as Colin Philippon scored the first of his two goals of the night at the 18L53 mark. He added one more in the third at the eight minute mark. Ryan Decker scored the final goal for the Greyhounds.

Post finished with 35 shots on the day with Michael Karas leading with five. Murray won 11 of his 16 facceoffs. Patrick Murphy won nine of his 17 draws as the teams split the faceoff battle, 33-33.

Drew Blodgett finished with 38 saves on the day, including 16 in the first period.

Philippon and Decker both added two assists on the day for Assumption.

Up next, the Eagles head back home for a weekend series against Franklin Pierce on Feb. 10 and 11. Friday's game will begin at 8 p.m. and Saturday's will start at 2:15 p.m.
